Mosin-Nagant M91/30 7.62X54R Excellent Condition
by Robert F Date Added: Wednesday 27 March, 2013
This is my 3rd mosin nagant and it is what it is...a shooter. Order time was fine. Buds has excellent customer service as we all have seen. I received an un-rearsenaled 1942 Izhevsk with understandably rough machining as russia was getting her butt whooped at that point in the war. But the firearm is perfectly functional and feeds/ejects without issue.

However, i believe the "excellent condition" title to be misleading. The stock was repaired on the left side of the reciever and the top handguard fit way too tight with the barrel bands, so tight in fact that it has bowed the wood and scraped off finish upon the first removal and inspection. The barrel was re-crowned, removing a 2 inch section of rifling which may or may not hinder accuracy. Bore was otherwise allright but notably worn. No rust was present. Also, the rifle came with the bayonet, and cleaning kit minus the fabric pouch that is used to store the cleaning kit- it was just the cleaning tools and gear in a plastic UPS bag. VERY disappointing. Also didn't come with the ammo pouches like my last 91/30 did and like most of them do. They also failed to include a sling. But after weighing the value of 2 ammo pouches, a sling, and a fabric tool pouch against the pain in the butt-ness of shipping it back, i just took what i had.

The good parts about the purchase is that the bolt parts are all in excellent condition with minimal corrosion related wear, it feeds and ejects perfectly, and the rifle has a metal bedding plate that was put in by the soldier in the field underneath the rear tang of the receiver. i believe this adds accuracy as well as historical value.

Conclusion: i would be totally happy with my purchase if i didn't feel i had been misled. I would rate the condition of this rifle as fair, NOT excellent, and the lack of accessories was disappointing. Were this advertised and priced as a fair condition rifle, i would purchase it again. However, i own an excellent condition 91/30 and this is not up to the same standard. I would not purchase again if this is the standard of an excellent condition rifle.
