Girsan MC1911S-G2 .45ACP 5" Sport w/Tac Rail
by Paul S Date Added: Saturday 05 October, 2013
Purchased this a month ago, and finally got to the range enough, and made the minor tweaks to get it just right. Now it's very reliable.

Out of the box, the fit and finish are very good, in fact, better than was expected for this price range. A little play in the slide, and a little wiggle in the trigger.. but a crisp trigger pull and smooth action (after a couple hundred rounds)

The grips that come stock are walnut, however, they are thick, and the lacquer is really shiny and glossy. I swapped them out for some Hogue palm swells and they fit just right.

The first trip to the range, and 100 rounds, there were multiple failure to feed, failure to eject, failure to return to battery and stovepipes. I could hardly get through a magazine without an issue. I almost threw in the towel and returned it. HOWEVER, after reading up on 1911 issues in general, and reviews of the ACT MAG magazines that come standard, I decided to try a quality magazine.

I picked up a few Chip McCormic Shooting stars, and a Wilson magwell (the type that attaches to the grip screws)

New magazines have changed everything I had to complain about. 200 more rounds into it and not a single issue. Not a one.

Fit, finish, and an extra $100 in to it for mags, magewell and grips, and this is a very reliable, accurate and comfortable pistol.

The only regret I have is that I bought the Sport model, and I am not too keen on the rail. I thought the tradeoff for the beavertail, sport trigger, Novak sights and skeletonized trigger was worth it (that's a lot of upgrade for a $20 price difference), but I want the classic 1911 lines. The rail really detracts from the aesthetics.

I may have to order another one for the range, and fill the rail on this with a laser/flashlight for a bedside piece.
