TISAS Classic 1911-A1 45ACP 5" GI BLACK
by Todd G Date Added: Monday 18 March, 2013
I am a long time gun owner, 30 years plus, but this is my first 1911 style pistol. After reading all of the reviews I placed the Tisas on layaway to ensure I would not miss out, and paid the pistol off the following week. It arrived swimming in oil as others have said but better too much than not enough. After a thorough cleaning and safety check I headed to the range and fired 200 rounds thru the gun, 160 Winchester 230 grain FMJ's cycled perfectly until the last mag, when I had 1 stovepipe. I am not sure if it was the supplied MecGar mag or one of the 3 MetalForm's I purchased while waiting on the gun to ship. 1 out of 160 isn't bad for a brand new gun. Then I loaded up some 185 grain PMC Bronze JHP's. The overall length of these rounds is notably shorter than the Winchester and the first round in every mag nosedived when loaded manually. Slide release or slingshot made no difference. I have since polished the feed ramp to a high glossy shine and will be testing the JHP's again at a later date. Overall fit and function of the pistol is excellent. The supplied rear sight is not a good fit for 45 year old eyes so I replaced it with a wide "U" notch rear sight from 10-8 Performance and painted the front ramp with some of my teen daughters' canary yellow nail polish. Now the sights seem to jump on target all by themselves! After carrying the pistol daily for a couple of weeks in a Blackhawk Tactical holster the slide is already showing finish wear on the sharp corners. I would have thought the finish would be a bit more durable. However, it is not enough to take away from the overall excellent value of the Tisas 1911-A1. Dealing with Buds has been a very positive experience and I highly recommend them. 5 stars and two thumbs up!
