Hey gang,
I'll make this one short. My budget for a carry gun was $300 or less. I ruled out most of the competition pretty quickly, and gave this one a good bit of research. I really couldn't be happier with my choice of carry gun here. I purchased the BL/FDE 12+1 model for $234. I really wanted some variation of FDE in both my carry and full-size guns. I ended up getting the Canik TP9SF (Desert Finish) along with this Taurus. Total bill from Bud's was $607 for two quality guns. I'm still impressed by that. I did look around locally for this one. The best price I got was closer to $400.
So, fit and finish is really nice. I'm 6'3" and have reasonably large hands, in which this gun fits just right. The mag plate makes the overall handle just long enough. No extra though. I really like the thumb safety. I grew up shooting 1911's and have had a Beretta Bobcat for over 20 years, so I'm already comfortable there. 3-dot sights and a tactile loaded chamber indicator are also great features.
I have had one cycling issue, but I can imagine it is Taurus' fault. I had a Winchester steel-cased shell expand and get lodged in the chamber. After verifying that the round had indeed gone downrange, we had to take the gun apart and use a long punch to remove the casing. It really took a good deal of effort. So I don't know the engineering specifics of steel versus brass or AL at all, much less to explain why that happened. I put that box aside and finished the day with brass cases and had no more issues. I'm gonna put a few hundred rounds of brass through it before putting the gun into service, but again, I really don't feel like its a design issue.
In closing, I love this gun and will recommend it to anyone asking.
Godspeed folks
