Bought this 223 online and was surprised just how pretty it was at delivery: GORGEOUS! Dark green textured stock is great, but, how heavy: really wanted 20" barrel, not 24" since my varmint shots usually under 200 yrds, but Buds couldn't get one. The trigger was way too heavy, so had a gunsmith lower to just over two pounds, saying a replacement trigger ( Jewell or Timney) would allow a still lower pull weight ( so maybe, but for now staying with the 2 pounder). Next, a DNZ one piece scope mount ( slick: no lapping required) and a Vortex Cross-Fire 6 x 24 (under $300) which is fine for around here, though I have my doubts about it out West, where more resolution needed but at a price! Anyway, with Nosler Varmaggedon 55 gr ammo, the rifle absolutely clover-leafs shots at 100 yrds and therefor what I had hoped for. However, I believe I can improve that with a Jewell trigger for touch-n-go shooting. Careful to use torque wrench on stock bolts @ 45 pounds, and scope rings under 18 Pounds, for consistency. I will probably go for a Jewell trigger and have the barrel cut to 20", like my other varmint getters, to have a "one-hole" rifle, and be the pride of the litter! Go ahead, treat yourself to the prettiest varmint rifle out there.

If you already have a nice 308 or 300 win mag and you want something that's just as accurate and cheap to shoot then this rifle is for you. I picked this rifle up because I wanted a mid range 223 with the 5r barrel and I wanted the longer barrel. This rifle is very accurate sub moa at 100 yards and you don't even have to try. its heavy but it isn't too bad, you can hunt with this rifle but if you are just looking for a hunting rifle I would go with the 20 inch threaded barrel version. never had a bad Remington 700 and I have owned most of the high end 700s. you can tell when you buy a high end 700 they spend a little more time on quality control. pick one up you wont be disappointed.
