Taurus 1911DT PT1911 8+1 45ACP 5"
by William S Date Added: Saturday 10 September, 2011
First off, I want to say that the Taurus 1911 is probably the best value when it comes to buying a quality 1911 at a good price. What you get is actually more than what others will give at a higher price. I have to say that their warranty is probably the best out there for a firearm as well, if not, then it is surely close to being number 1. Now for the review of this firearm:

It is constructed well and the tolerances for quality are very good. The gun fires very nice, and has a tight bore that gives great accuracy (to give an idea, It made better groups than a Glock 22 when we compared). The gun will need to be cleaned properly before firing it as it is covered in gritty protectant, probably cosmoline grease. We fired 250 though the gun with no hang ups. It fired flawlessly. The next time we took it to fire is when we ran into some problems. The gun failed on us and was rendered unusable for the time being. At first we thought that maybe it was to dirty after 200 rounds or maybe the extractor was too loose until we field stripped it at the range and couldn't see anything wrong, so we cleaned it and then tried to fire it again and nothing happened. It was when I made it home and completely took the whole thing apart, I was able to see that the very tip of the extractor had actually broken off! That wasn't a very good picture, because we thought "what if that happened if we needed it to defend our lives from something and it did that?" We had to send the gun back to Taurus. I don't really blame Taurus for the problem as others like Springfield have used the same "Metal injection Molded" extractors from what I have seen. Anyways, I sent the gun off and received it back in less than a week! It looks like they put a better extractor in the gun, I can tell the steel at least looks better so lets hope it will not break again. I don't think it will. After the repair, the gun functions flawlessly so far after about 100 rounds. I should give the gun four stars because it had a major failure after 250 rounds, but I am going to give the gun 5 stars anyways because Taurus made things right.

Would I recommend this as a home defense weapon? I can't say for sure, but I would recommend a sig p226 or Glock 22 or 19 over this as home defense or a duty weapon. I just don't want to have a major failure that renders my weapon useless when I need it.

Rating: 5 of 5 Stars! [5 of 5 Stars!]
