I owed a Taurus PT 709 and had no problem at all. So I took a chance on another Taurus. My first impression after 20 shots was, WOW. The PT 840 was one of the most accurate gun I have ever shot. At 7 yards, I made one big hole with my first 20 shots. The recoil was no worse than a 9mm. I put 200 rounds on my first trip out. No FTF or FTE at all with mixture of Federal FMJ, JHP, and some reloads. This gun shoots and feels great. This gun shoots like a dream. But, it is not perfect. Out of the box, it's extremely "greasy". Need some real cleaning. The slide isn't very smooth. You have to put some good amount of oil on the rail and the slide rail. I did run into two problems while at the range. First, when the slide locks back after the magazine is empty, after removing the magazine, the slide won't go back forward by pulling it back. You have to release the slide lock in order to release the slide, again, the magazine was already removed. There could be some more grease within the slide lock mechanism. I will clean it more thoroughly then try again. Second, the magazine fit really loose in the grip. It rattles when you holster the gun and walk around with it. I did have the magazine fell out the grip once while shooting and there were still ammos in the magazine. It could have been me not having the magazine in all the way. I will pay more attention on it. These two issues have nothing to do with the performance of the gun itself, but some might find it inconvenient. I didn't get this gun as my primary CCW, but it will do just fine for IDPA and other matches. Last, if you like a short trigger rest gun, this is the one for you. Look up a video on Youtube ( Taurus PT840 trigger reset) and see for it yourself. I hope this long review will help someone.
