Nifty little Federal Magnum .327; about as much impact as a .357 but without the recoil. Only negative for me was the too small grip so I changed it out for a Hogue and that worked great. Fun to shoot. Priced under $700.

Purchased this firearm and had an issue with the action/cylinder locking up. Called Ruger and they sent UPS a pickup notification and had it returned to me in a week with the issue remedied. I really like this revolver and I like how Ruger took care of this situation, and I got a great price on the firearm from Bud's.

Very disappointed. After two rounds, the trigger stuck in the depressed position. Had to be manually reset with my thumb after every round. Sending it back to Ruger after firing 10 rounds!

I have owned Ruger products for over thirty years and have owned more Rugers than any of the other firearms manufacturers. I have bought Ruger products for my wife and children, both recreation and self-defense. Having set the stage, my last three Ruger purchases have progressively gotten worse. Customer Service did a great job fixing my wife's SR22 and my son's sp101. My son's sp101 should not have gotten out the factory like that, but they made right. My last purchase, (which will be my last Ruger purchase unless quality agains soars heavenly), was another sp101 in 327 Fed Magnum for my wife. Thinking she could shoot some low power 32 caliber for self defense. I tried it out with 327 Fed. Mag. just to make sure it functioned as it should with the Fed. Magnums. The empty's were so tightly stuck in the cylinder that the range officer and I were actually pulling the cylinder off the yoke. Probably poorly cut cylinders from the factory, regardless this should never have left the factory. To their credit, Buds, refunded my money and made it right!!! I'll keep my older, dependable Rugers, but I wouldn't take a new one for free.

I am a big fan of the .32 caliber cartridge. I also have a Ruger Single Seven and LCR in .327 Federal Magnum. And, yes, I do reload. My recoil-sensitive wife loves shooting the S&W Longs and on our last range trip she shot some "bunny fart" .32 H&R magnum rounds I loaded up for her. My hope is to get her to try some Hornady H&R Critical Defense ammo on the next trip to the range. Personally, I like shooting the .327 Magnum and Buffalo Bore H&R Magnum P rounds. The heft of the gun mitigates a lot of the recoil, yet, it is still small enough to carry in my Alien Gear holster. The SP101 is built like a small tank, similar to my Redhawk, but way smaller. It is typical Ruger quality with a nice stainless steel finish. The somewhat meager sights were accurate right out of the box. I found the DA/SA pull to be a little on the heavy side (12-13 lbs and almost 6 lbs, respectively). My wife found it difficult to cock the hammer with one thumb. So I installed the MCARBO spring kit (www.mcarbo.com/ruger-sp101-/-gp100-trigger-spring-kit.aspx) after watching the YouTube video - thereby reducing the DA/SA pull to 8.4 and 3.0 lbs, respectively. I polished the sears, pawl, trigger spring tunnel, etc.. Overall , it is a wonderful small revolver that shoots a very versatile cartridge. I believe it should have a better trigger at this price point. Buds did their usual great job in getting this gun to me and at the best price I could find. I will buy all future guns through Buds.

I have several Ruger SP101 revolvers. This caliber is the cream of the crop. The capability of chambering several different cartridges and loads gives this pistol a wide range of uses. The 3"bbl is a nice length to carry and get good performance out of your desired load. Recoil of the heaviest of loads is not a consideration. I love these wheel guns, but if I had to pick just one to have, this would be it because of the versatility. I would buy again. Just a FYI, this firearm as gone up in price over $100 since I purchased it a few months ago. They are also hard to find. If you are on the fence, just buy it. You will not regret it. Ruger stands behind its products.

Ruger makes a tank in this 327 Federal SP101 my 4th SP101 great carry guns this 327 is a great magnum load but whats great about this gun is it also shoots 32 S&W long 32 H&R another magnum load as good as a 38 without any recoil 32 S&W and it can actually shoot 32 ACP a very versatile gun. Definitely can be used as a defensive CC gun since the 327 and 32 H&R definitely have enough stopping power.. This is a great gun 6 shot and a 3" barrel. Buds was great to deal with and love that 90 day layaway all around 5 stars for both...KCK

4 stars because I have to use a complete full sight to hit at POA and I found a burr on the transfer bar. But other than that, the lock up is tight and the timing is good. I would have given 5 stars but I’m literally aiming off of the top of the barrel to be accurate. 5 stars for Buds, fast and easy.

I really like the look, size, and feel of the gun. The grip is nice looking and adequate. The trigger pull could be a little lighter. New springs should fix that.

Purchased The Ruger SP101 with Bud's Layaway to get cash price. Picked up gun from my FFL last week. It is a very nice looking revolver and seems to be very well made. I have not had opportunity to shoot it yet . It locks up good and tight and the timing is as it should be. The trigger on mine seems smooth. The .327 Federal Magnum is a very powerful small round. It's just my opinion I think the .327 Federal Magnum is an excellent self defense round. I Also like getting six rounds in a smaller framed revolver.

Quite possibly the WORST manufactured revolver I have ever owned. This thing is so poorly put together I cannot imagine how it got off the production floor. I am a fairly experienced shooter, I currently own a Ruger Security Six in .357, one of the best pistols in my safe, bought it in 1974; a Smith 36-1, just a jewel of a pistol, 4 1911's, Browning BDA, three Kimber's, and the list is a bit longer, but I am not new to this game. RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX, here are the issues (picked it up today, have NOT FIRED THIS): - (1) There are obvious machining scar marks prevalent up the ENTIRE access rib for the crane latch pivot, clearly caused by improper torque at an improper angle during installation for the screw - (2) below the latch pivot there is a obvious and deep knick in the frame, looks like it probably was done during whatever the heck happened in the crane latch pivot assembly. Then it gets WORSE: (1) there are grinding noises (and when I say grinding, I mean loud GRINDING noises I have never heard in a revolver, from any manufacturer) along the entire HAMMER ASSEMBLY in both single action and double action and the frame (2) the hammer assembly is easily moved from side to side though, using only my fingers, so it is possible, if the grinding bothers the shooter on the left side of the frame, you can just push it over so it grinds on the right side of the frame. But not to worry, (3) you won't notice all that at first, because there is a buckling, or clunk felt and heard when the trigger is engaged in double action, occurring where either the pawl, the trigger link/plunger and the trigger (or all three) are not correctly fitted, or more likely the frame is out of tollerence. (4) I suspect that is the case, because the rear of the cylinder, when released and pivoted out scrapes, and for the full rotation of the cylinder, against the frame. (5) There is something very odd about the "slip", more like a disconnect, that occurs when the trigger is slowly released back from travel. Its like the trigger assembly disconnects during that motion, and the cylinder stops rotating back to battery. (6) there is an obvious vibration all up and down the grip of the frame that feels like the mainspring strut is moving or is being moved out of position in double action. (7) the hammer pivot assembly protrudes out the right side of the frame, and will not slide back flush with the frame it is obvious the frame, or parts of the frame, was or were not correctly mated and or locked down to the lathe during the machining process. While the design is superb, this particular pistol is a piece of junk and I will not shoot it. Thank you whomever inspector 14 is. I waited over a month for the delivery of this pistol, I will now have to haggle over whether or not it gets replaced or RUGER will try to fix it and return it to me, yada yada. I will have to wait through shipping, and then the aggravation of (potentially) disassembling the thing to inspect it. I have not disassembled this pistol, I have no intention of trying to work thru all of the issues this "thing" has. Buds did their job, the pistol arrived to me in the box, obviously wrapped at the factory, all of the pieces that were supposed to be in the box were, but this is just one incredibly substandard weapon as it sits in front of me.

Shopping with Bud’s is too easy. Weapons are in great shape with that new car smell. My wife asks me “Did you buy something else?” Yep. Now I have to take her out to eat. On to my Ruger SP101 327 magnum. I love it. Perfect size and shape. Federal 327 mag 100 grain are at the limit that I can handle. 32 H&R mag are easy to handle. 32 long are great plinkers. Federal Hydra-shok will be my EDC. Will continue to shop at Bud’s.

Kudos to Buds for competitive pricing, their lay-away purchase option, and quick two-day shipping to my FFL. This revolver had been previously produced by Ruger ten years ago when the .327 Federal Magnum was first developed by Federal and Ruger. The SP101, with a capacity of 6 rounds and sporting a 3" barrel, has been recently placed back in production, and it appears to be a winner. The .327 magnum (actually .312) is a high velocity, powerful round. For example, Buffalo Bore 100 grain JHP ammo will hit about 1,300-1,400 feet per second out of this weapon. Federal American Eagle .327 range ammo is also quite "warm." The SP101 weighs 27 ounces. I have a Charter Arms Patriot (6 round capacity with a 2.2" barrel) in .327 Federal Magnum that tips the scales at only 20 ounces. The SP101 is easier to control given that it is almost a half pound heavier. The trigger action is also smooth, though the revolver would benefit from a better sight picture (the front blade can be replaced with a fiber optic piece that should improve things). The fit and finish of the Ruger is typical of the genre. I brightened up the stainless steel finish by using Mother's Mag Polish on it. The advantage of the SP101 in .327 magnum is a 6 round capacity versus a 5 round capacity in the .357 magnum version. Yes, the .357 is a more powerful round, but the .327 is no slouch as a self-defense cartridge. It hits fast and hard. However, .327 Federal Magnum is nowhere near as ubiquitous as .357 magnum. The good news is this version of the SP101 will also handle .327 H&R magnum, .32 long, and .32 short ammunition. So it is quite a versatile revolver. Recommended.
