Colt O8011XSE XSE Series 8+1 45ACP 5"

My first gun from Bud’s but I would buy from them again in the future. Painless transaction and they shipped it the day after I ordered. I was hoping this would be the latest production run with the hump on the grip safety and it was. I’m a bit of a 1911 aficionado and decided it was time to own a Colt, though I’ve never been a huge Colt fan, I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Frame to slide fit (I was expecting to be loose) is rock solid and on par with my Les Baer TRS!! Barrel fit is good, maybe .001 vertical play, hood looks great, the bushing is acceptable for a combat gun but I would probably replace it if this were a target pistol and might also add a oversize slide stop. Over all fit and finish is very good the sights fit well, the rear of the frame and slide looks good but not great, grip safety is not great, trigger is very good and breaks at 4.25-4.5 pounds with a little creep and a good amount of take-up. The bad: Plastic mainspring housing is a WTF type part, loose grip safety could be better, barrel bushing is fairly loose, no bushing wrench (even though the bushing is pretty loose I can’t turn it all the way by hand to field strip), there were about 3-4 hairline scratches out of the box they don’t bother me because I’ll be using this with a holster but some would be upset. I was worried about ordering a Colt unseen (I’ve seen some with issues) but this one gives me hope that maybe Colt is really back in the game. Overall fit and finish: It’s the best Colt I’ve handled and I’d say it’s slightly better than most of the Springfields I’ve owned/handled and slightly worse than the Kimbers I’ve owned/handled. No one locally sells Colts or has a good selection anyway, I figured I’d be better off ordering from Bud’s than ordering off an auction sight and chancing getting a picked over gun that had been in a showcase. Very happy with Bud’s and surprising happy with a company I may have formerly referred to as the devil. It may be pressing my luck but I hope to find a Colt Rail Gun in a few months when the super secret gun money stash is replenished.
