Savage AXIS XP 308 W/SCP
by Keith M Date Added: Monday 18 February, 2013
Savage Axis XP in .308: I ordered this rifle because of the great reputation of Savage and the excellent price Bud's offered on the rifle and scope package. When I ordered it, I was aware the shipping may be slow on this particular item and indeed, it was a bit slow. However, it wasn't excessive. After my payment cleared the gun was shipped in a weeks time. I intend to use this rifle for hunting Florida white tail deer.

I picked up the rifle and took it to a friend's house to try it out. Straight out of the box, the rifle was on paper and with a little tweaking, it was shooting good groups. The bolt action was flawless and even though I had read numerous articles on the web about this gun having a heavy trigger, I was satisfied. It does not have the Accutrigger, but even still, the rifle fired extremely well. The gun is light and the recoil pad was excellent. My wife and sister-in-law also shot it and actually had tighter groups than I did! Neither of them complained about the gun's kick and I should mention that neither of them are experienced rifle shooters. I can't compare it to many other rifles, but I would recommend this particular Savage rifle to anyone looking for an economical, well made weapon.

The gun package is equipped with a Bushnell Sharpshooter scope, 3-9x40, and it fuctioned well, too. I've heard these scopes are not very high quality, but for the price of this package, who can complain? It is made in China, which I'm not too crazy about, but what isn't nowadays? The scope was bright and clear. The duplex crosshairs were crisp and easy to see on target. The zoom ring does turn with quite a bit of resistence, but nothing too hard. I did not care for the elevation and windage dials. They are hard to turn with the small, recessed dials. However, they did have metal caps. Nice! Yes, there are other scopes on the market that are better than this one, but if you're looking to spend ~$300 on a rifle/scope package, you're not expecting a Leupold. If you are, you are the one with problems!

Thank you Bud's for a fine weapon! I have never purchased a firearm online before and was apprehensive about doing so. But, this was a pleasant experience and I will be back again to order a .22LR for my 10 year old nephew and possibly a 12 gauge for home protection. I have no complaints on the shipping of the gun as I was made aware of the delays when I purchased it. Even though it took about 2 weeks for the gun to arrive in my hands, it was faster than I was warned it could take.
