Remington 96328 R1 Enhanced 8+1 45ACP 5"
by Ryan F Date Added: Friday 13 April, 2012
This R1 Enhanced was the culmination of a long and exhaustive search to find my "perfect" first 1911 model pistol. There were many factors that went into it (price range, features, reliability, accuracy, etc.) and it was not an easy decision. I originally wanted a Springfield 1911 Mil Spec, but that model proved impossible to get. Actually I'm glad it was, because I cannot imagine having a pistol that is better than this one. Without going feature by feature, I will just hit the highlights. First and foremost, the trigger. I've shot 1911 Colts, Kimbers, Springfields, etc. but I have never shot one that came out of the box with such a smooth, sleek, crisp trigger pull. It is incredible, and something that should be experienced firsthand it at all possible. The slide, mag release and safeties were all very smooth (surprising for a new gun), and the only difficult part is engaging the slide release with a magazine in place (this was very difficult, but only with an empty mag. A loaded magazine causes the release to function seamlessly). I put 100 rounds through it at a relatively quick pace and did not experience any failures or issues of any kind. The two magazines that come with it are also extremely high quality, load very easily, feed perfect, and have holes with numbers on the side for each individual bullet for easy counting (unnecessary, but nice). Right out of the box, the gun shoots dead on target at point-of-aim, which I expected and was glad to see. I shot both Winchester 230gr FMJ's and Remington Golden Sabre 230gr HPJ's and both worked perfectly.

All in all, I have to highly, HIGHLY recommend this gun. I believe the R1 Enhanced to be equal or superior to "custom" 1911's that cost well over $1,000. After all was said and done from Bud's, this gun cost me $754.25 and was worth every single penny. For 1911 enthusiasts or new gun buyers, I think this is a must have for your collection.
