Beretta JMN9S15 BU9 Nano 6+1 9mm 3.07"
by Robert B Date Added: Tuesday 26 February, 2013
I couldn't be more pleased with the Nano! This is the first Beretta firearm I've ever owned, actually the first I've even fired in over 35 years of shooting. But it won't be my last. First off, a few hundred rounds into my time with the gun I haven't had a single malfunction. Even Beretta has admitted that the gun may not run well with lighter bullets, but it's digested even 115 gr flawlessly. I'm also really blown away by how accurate and shootable it is. My hands are on the largish size (I generally wear XL gloves) and I can only get my trigger finger and two more on the grip frame, but it doesn't impair shootability in the slightest. Part of this is due to a really superb trigger. I'm a longtime single action auto guy and not generally a fan of striker fired pistols but the Nano's trigger is terrific. I find it to be much, much better than any Glock I've ever fired (I've owned one and shot several more). There's a bit of takeup and the pull is somewhat heavy and long, but there's no grit and no stacking. Once you get the slack taken up the pull is nice it breaks very, very cleanly. The gun arrived on a Thursday and I didn't a chance to shoot it til the following week, so in the intervening time I dry fired it a couple hundred times to get a handle on the trigger. After running a few mags through it I was at the point where I shot it about as well as I can shoot a Sig 1911 (inside of 15 yards, at least).

The recoil, or lack thereof, was another pleasant surprise. Few would say the 9mm has heavy recoil but it was exceptionally soft shooting. It was more pleasant to shoot than my Bersa BP9CC and considerably easier to manage than a Glock 19. The only thing I could complain about was the six round mag- just when you're starting to have fun, the ammo is gone! Luckily I have three mags for it and an 8-rounder on the way.

Interestingly, a seventh round will do into the magazine but it obviously doesn't "fit"- the nose diives and it won't feed. I believe the Nano was designed around the .40 S&W, and presumably it will be chambered for that round down the road. It looks like it was designed to hold six .40 S&W rounds. If/when it does come out for forty I'll be picking one up.

Great gun, and a great experience dealing with Bud's. They were pretty slow processing the payments (ten days per payment!) but I attribute that to the current atmosphere of panic. I'll undoubtedly be purchasing from Bud's again in the future.
