An outstanding choice for an affordable, accurate, low cost rifle. Great trigger, great finish, mechanically sound. The only small drawback is the stock. Light and plasticky sounding. Little foam alleviates that. Can’t go wrong. Thanks buds! You are the best!

Very smooth shooting rifle. The finish on the barrel is just what I wanted with none reflective finish. Very accurate

This rifle is average for a gun at this price point. Trigger won't adjust down as low as Ruger advertises. Barrel contour is rather thin. I have the same rifle in 22-250 and it has the same barrel thickness. With the 308 bore the barrel walls are on the thin side causing the barrel to heat up quickly. Three shot groups are decent but if you try for five shot groups shooting quickly, groups start to open up. Three shot groups average 1 1/4 inch at a hundred yards with handloads. Tooling marks are visible on the barrel. Finish is evenly applied on the barrel and receiver. Bolt was rather stiff and gritty at first, but is starting to smooth out. Rifle is o.k., but I don't think that I buy it again. Dealing with Bud's was great as usual.

This rifle is very nice and to shoot, has a fairly comfortable stock and looks awesome. The reason im giving 4 out of 5 stars is because of the cheap unreliable magazine it comes with, it doesnt chamber a round roughly 20% of the time.

I read mixed reviews on this gun before purchasing but decided to give a try anyhow. Like other reviews I read the milling on bolt is bad. The bolt does not move smoothly at all. It has a cheap plastic stock. All plastic stocks are disappointing. The trigger is decent. With minor adjustments it was a good trigger for the price of the gun. Accuracy is another story. I have shot federal fusion and winchester xp so far and grouping was not impressive. Hopefully hornady will group better. Overall I am not overly pleased, but maybe if I find an ammunition that will group better I will change my opinion. Just disappointing because I am a Ruger fan and own 5 other Ruger firearms and am really happy with those.

For being such a light gun, this Ruger American 308 shoots really well, has a manageable recoil, and is well made. The bolt is a bit noisy at first, but after oiling and working the action several times, it quieted down. I love the tang safety, but it will be the one thing that makes me lose a deer. It too is noisy...and my finger & brain are trained for the safety being near the trigger, so it will take practice and muscle memory to remember to switch it off! But overall, very nice gun. I will put her to good use!

I purchased this Ruger American 308 for hunting and precision long range shooting. I have not been to the range since I received the rifle. I have been updating my purchase with a few item. Hopefully I can give you a better review in the near future.

Excellent gun for the money. Now that the predator model is out, I would love to shoot it. The factory barrel on the American does heat up, so the heavier barrel on the RAP is intriguing the RAR is still an amazing choice for a hunting rifle.

Haven't shot the gun yet, but I will say that working with Buds was a great experience. I was hesitant about ordering a gun online, but after dealing with Buds I would do it again.

After first inspection the gun appeared to be very well made. However, after installing the bolt, it makes a zipping noise as it is pushed back and forth. This is due to the machining of the bolt. The bolt is also VERY stiff. I cleaned and oiled the gun thoroughly and worked the bolt about 200 times. This did help smooth it out some. The bolt however has an issue grabbing and locking when you have a round being chambered. It prevents you from locking the bolt down. This is very annoying as you have to open the bolt, shake the bullet out of the chamber, and retry. It is not a brass issue as I have tried several makes with the same issue. The gun shoots very accurately with hornady 150 gr whitetail and nosler 165 gr ballistic. But I would not purchase again or recommend purchasing due to the bolt issue. Last thing you want is to miss out on a trophy animal cause you can't load a round....

Exceeded expectations, period. You can't go wrong with a 100% American-made Ruger.

I’m not ever going to be done shooting the Ruger American. This is one of my favorite bolt action rifles. It’s going to stay in my daily rotation of guns for the foreseeable future. The American series is unique, and this model, with its full-sized stock and mid-weight barrel is probably the most versatile budget rifle of them all. Especially with a decent scope on top. If you’re asking yourself if the Ruger American in .308 Winchester is the best deal going in hunting rifles today? I definitely think so.

I purchased the Ruger American .308 hoping the other reviews about it were trustworthy, all I can say is Yes, '100%satisfied' with the performance of this gun. The feel, fit and finish are quit nice, accuracy is excellent (based on the few rounds I put through it, siting it in ) .The trigger is much nicer than anticipated... light,short and crisp.Though the gun is light weight, the factory recoil pad does an excellent job buffering the force. For the price and even if it was at a higher price, this is a very good choice !
