Taurus 1911FS PT1911 8+1 45ACP 5"
by Timothy T Date Added: Tuesday 24 June, 2014
I'm a first time firearm owner so this review is going to be through the eyes of a total newbie.

First off, budsgunshop was awesome. I had some strange issues with shipping and buds was awesome. The customer service rep. I talked to (patrick, I think) was amazing.

The PT1911 came as advertised. The day I picked it up I put 24 rounds of CCI Blazer 230 grain FMJ ammo through it without a problem. It's fun to shoot and I'm guessing will serve me for years to come.

Thankfully, I have a friend that owns a springfield armory 1911 and has shot a bunch of different models including some of the higher end custom brands. His immediate criticisms were as follows:

1.) the firearm was covered in a type of oil he said was known for causing issues. Upon further research it seems to be a rust preventitive. He called it something specific, I just don't remember what it's called. Anyway, he cleaned it up and used some hoppes elite on it. Looked much better. :)
2.) He said the slide had a lot of wiggle. Not too much, but it was more than what the premium 1911s come with. From what I've researched, it shouldn't be a problem with what I'd consider to be a normal amount.
3.) He also wasn't a big fan of the trigger. He said it felt too rough.

My newbie observations:

1.) The ONE magazine it comes with does seem to be of good quality.
2.) Out of the box, it was what I consider to be accurate as I had no issues placing rounds near or on top of other shots. This was the first .45 ACP firearm I've ever fired so I felt that was pretty impressive, even if it was only about 12 yards.
3.) I'm not a huge fan of the "blued" matte black look. It seems to scuff pretty easily and just isn't very attractive. It's a minor complaint considering it's reliability placing and firing a .45 round is all that matters really.

It seems to shoot really well and is real joy to take to the range. My only major complaint is that .45 acp ammunition isn't cheap and I don't have near enough time to take it out!
