Rifle is more accurate than I am. Ruger makes a great working man's rifle.

I have hunted with a Ruger 77 RSI in .308 topped with a 2-7x35 Nikon compact for years. It has harvested it's share of Venison and Hogs. This new Ruger American compact rifle is probably the best "out of the box" shooters I have bought in years. I topped it with a Burris Fullfield IV 2-10x40 scope. This new Ruger is lighter and puts 1 inch groups at 100 yards without killing your shoulder. This Ruger American rifle is such a pleasure to shoot. It is also a good choice for the one rifle hunter / shooter who wants a quality sporting rifle at a reasonable cost. Look no further. The Ruger American compact is the one. The action is smooth and the trigger is crisp. The synthetic stock has a great fore end grips. The padded butt plate is comfortable. The barrel is fluted and is a free floating barrel. The drop down magazine makes reloading simple. The Ruger American Compact in .308 Winchester is one of the best all around Rifles I have in my safe. This rifle is practical for any animal on the North American Continent. If you like to still hunt or have a long hike to your secret spot, this Ruger will never tire you out from carrying it in the woods all day. The Ruger American compact comes in a selection of calibers to meet your needs. I have always liked .308 Winchester. .308 Winchester ammo is readily available and comes in a variety of bullet configurations and weights.
OVERALL, I would recommend this rifle to anyone who wants a quality and accurate light weight rifle that packs all the punch one can need. At 50 or 300 yards, this small package will deliver.

Great for women and youth! I purchased this gun for my son who’s just starting out. It’s light enough for him to handle as well as carry. The lesser kick, boosted his confidence to make a nice shot without rattling him. I’m 5’2” with short arms and it’s very comfortable for me to use as well. I plan on purchasing another one soon!

Looks good with a Leopold scope 3x9x40 on it waiting to add on bipod and sling also a rifle case before I take it to the range can't wait. First bolt action rifle feels heavy but I like it.

For the money, this just may be the best rifle value in America. It’s a short, handy package in the light recoiling, hard hitting .308 caliber.

Nice gun. Quality product for cost. I bought this because I already owned the Amer Ranch 223 and that one is a great shooter. This one shoots very well, but not as tight of groups as my hawkeye compact. I would recommend this gun. It's my alternative gun to the hawkeye. Both shoot very good groups with Fusion 150s. Very happy with it.

The service and communication was very good. I like the rifle and have set it up. It shoots good and is just what I needed to lug into the woods hunting. Nice and light and shoots where I point it. I have had no trouble with the mags like some have reported. I wanted a light 308 and this Ruger American Compact 308 is just the ticket. The price was right also.

I previously owned one of these in a 22-250 and it shot sub MOA. So I decided to buy the 308. My mistake, I couldn’t get this rifle to shoot a 5 inch group at 100. I’m sure if I sent it to ruger, they would have sent me a new one, but I didn’t bother, I traded it to a gunsmith. So hey, I got a lemon, no big deal. It happens. But thank you buds for being so free and easy.

LOL what a rifle....I just had to buy my daughter a left hand SS of this rifle because she stole mine from me....it shoots great.....less than 1/2" at 100......for me she is a little more open but what do you need at 100 yards really....I love the compacts and short rifle my personal favorites yes I have had long barrels but in the right hands the short barrels can do the deed as well....great gun.

Love the feel of this gun! Mounted my Osprey 3-9 x 40 scope and it shoots almost as good as my Remington 700. Great gun for reaching out a long way and toughing something. Buds, as usual, was top notch. Very quick shipping to my FFL. Pricing is the best I've found on the web. Will shop again.

Received the Ruger American compact 308 yesterday. Came packed in a considerable amount of oil but otherwise perfect condition. After disassembly and cleaning I mounted a Sig Sauer whiskey 3, 3-9x40 scope (buds for 141 bucks) and am very impressed with this rifle. The barrel is free floated and the weight/length makes it very easy to handle. One of my concerns was the length of pull as I expected it to be too short for me. However, with the scope in it's furthers forward position it's perfect. Can't wait to zero it in. Overall, great gun for the money and I'm pretty sure it'll take the place of some of my other more costly rifles this deer season. If you're on the fence, just buy one. Save round. After my order it was in the processing department for five days. Then it took another 4 days to arrive at my FFL. Pretty standard for buds as it was the same for the 4 guns I've bought from them so far.

Buds delivered quickly, put a Nikon Prostaff on it and took it to the range to sight in. Love the compact barrel, smooth action, tang safety, and installed weaver mounts. Gun is light but has a very good butt pad that takes the bite out of the recoil. The magazine loads smoothly and feeds smoothly. I liked the trigger as set at the factory but it can be adjusted down. This gun can shoot way better than I can aim. Bottom line, an amazing bargain.

Purpose: I bought this gun for a difficult terrain rifle. I carries like nothing. One arm, cradle, however you like, it is so light (2-7X Nikon scope in Leupold rings) that you forget it is there. Quality: The stock, marketed as free floated, is crooked and bears against the left side of the barrel. Otherwise the fit and finish are as expected. More of a military type finish than Ruger's other rifle offerings. Shooting: Light as it is, the stock design and butt pad make it comfortable to shooting on the bench, but it's light weight make it a little lively offhand in the field. I got an average of 2.0" shooting Hornady American Whitetail (10, 5 shot groups). The little barrel gets hot fast, so plan a day if you want to shoot from a relatively cold barrel for hunting practice. Ergonomics: The stock needs work. It is so small and slick that it is always shifting in your hands when gloved. The grip to trigger alignment is poor. The centered safety works well. It shoulder fast and repeatably, and as mentioned is a dream to carry, less so to shoot. Trigger: I do not like the safe triggers on these grade guns. It will take a lot of range time to get used to it. Conclusion: It works perfectly for what I bought it, something lightweight and compact in difficult terrain. I will be looking to replace the stock as soon a Hogue of something like their full length bedding block stock is available for it, or an AR type tactical stock. I do not like the trigger, but will live with it for now. Accuracy is minute of deer, but I will reserve judgement until I can shoot a wider variety of loads and fix the crooked stock.

The lil rifle is just what I was looking for. I had looked at the full size, but when this one came out, I knew I had to have one. It is short, sweet and to the point. Bud's is always a fast shipper, and I have had nothing but good experience with Bud's.

Light but sturdy "reach out and touch" rifle. First day out had tight and consistent groups at 50, 100 and 300. Definitely happy with purchase. Very little recoil and no fatigue. Love the trigger system, which was easy to hone to your own. Safety is where I prefer.
