  • How can I specify who will pick up the handgun from the FFL. I would like to pay for it and have my Father be able to pick it up at my local gun shop as a present.

  • Hi Patrick, the firearm would need to be purchased under your fathers name. It would be far easier to purchase your Father a Buds Gift Card in the amount of the handgun and let him create an account (if he does not already have a Buds Account) and perform the purchase. If the account in question is your account, you are the buyer and must pickup the handgun. If he has an account you can enter his information and pay with your payment method.

  • Hello Patrick, the answer given by James G is the best. The firearm will have to ship from Buds to a FFL for transfer. On the ATF Firearm Transfer Form you will notice a question that states," Are you buying this firearm for yourself?" Do not lie. This question is to help prevent "Straw Purchases" which technically this would be a "Straw Purchase". A straw purchase by definition is buying a firearm for another person. It is often referred to when a qualified person buys a firearm for someone who is by law disqualified to own a firearm. I am not saying that this is what is going on but buying a firearm for another person can be tricky. Depending on your state's laws, you can gift a firearm that you have purchased to another person if they are immediate family, but, THIS WOULD DEPEND ON YOUR STATE'S LAWS. The FFL, if they know that you are not the end user of said firearm, they will be bound by Federal Law to refuse to transfer because by federal law the purchaser MUST BE the end user and that person has to be qualified to possess a firearm. This is what the Federal Form is concerned about. The very best way to do this and to avoid any violation of a state or Federal law would be to gift the money to your father so that he can purchase the firearm for himself. Even if you are allowed by your state to gift a firearm that you have purchased to another person, the firearm will still be in your name.I should state that I am not a lawyer and this is not professional advice
