  • Just wanted to see if anyone sees rust on their slide. The BP9 has that issue and I live in FL. , so sweat will happen. Just clarifying before I buy. Thanks folks.

  • Growing up on the coast in S. Fla rust was always a problem with metal and firearms in particular. Here are a few tips to consider; If you store your guns in a safe, install one or two de-humidifier rods (more if it’s a particularly large safe. Brands such a Golden Rod, etc. well. I believe Buds sells them and other brands. After each use clean the gun thoroughly and wipe it down with gun oil, synthetic motor oil, Ballistol, food grade mineral oil (mineral oil is the main component in Ballistol), etc. I have used silicon infused clothes and they seem to work well too. You can “refresh” silicon clothes with spray silicon. Regardless of what you use for protection If the gun is not used often, give it a fresh wipe down at least once a month. One of the things I do to help the de-humidifiers if I have a small metal coffee can with small holes all around the outside. I lined the inside with metal screen and filled it with silica gel pellets that come with packaged items. Every month or so I remove the plastic lid and place the can in the over for 2 1/2 to 3 hours “160 deg F) to dry the pellets out. Any container will work, if its not metal just place the silica on a cookie sheet or oven pan. A toaster oven works well for this. In the end, lower price point guns tend to be made from "plain" steel, while strong enough, does not resist rusting very well. The quality of the protective coating (and thus cost) determines its run resistance.

  • I live in NC and I don't have an issue Sean. However, I am meticulous with my firearm maintenance which should alleviate potential issues no matter your location. Plenty of lubes and rust preventatives available these days. Just be vigilant with maintenance and you will be fine.

  • With todays firearm coatings rust is not as huge of an issue as an older blue finish. Still since you live in Florida where sweating is very common as is salt in the air. I would recommend a regular cleaning and light lube to reduce rusting of any firearm.
