First of all this gun is amazing to shoot and deadly accurate. I've shot many handguns and no hard preference to the .45 but as a carry gun this thing is amazing. First off its a 1911 it just feels great in the hand as they are known for and the great mechanics and safety feature. Night sight is single front none rear which isnt the best in my opinion tho this gun isn't meant to be shooting more than 10yds in the dark for defense though if situation may occur hopefully I can rely on my mechanics from practice.
Only reason this does not get highest rating is cosmetics. First day taking apart the paint scratches off easily, after 500rds and a few months of sitting in its holster and removal slide is already wearing the bluing away and have to be aware of surface rust.
My HK45T has slide wear but no worries if surface rust after 10k rounds and monthly use.
Overall great gun and very reliable just disappointed with cosmetics.I will be looking for some night rear sights as well.

My Defender arrived at my nearby FFL yesterday. It was the first time using this FFL as my old shop sold and are not on Bud's list of preferred dealers. The new dealer had already made the transfer before I even saw my new pistol, which wasn't a big deal until I took it out. The weight and feel of the Defender is absolutely is better than I had hoped for. The only thing that concerns me with this pistol is the thumb safety. It is loose when the safety is off. It takes an effort to push the safety upward into the slide, but once it's there, it stays put. This is the only gun I have ever bought where the safety wasn't a firm on/off. I'm not sure if I have a problem with this safety or if it is as designed? I have a call into Colt asking about the safety. I have boxes of ammo arriving in the next day or two, so I'll update this review with the firing of the piece, and the status of the safety.

A:Scott, No it should not be loose. The safety lever should be very secure and positive. Loose is not good. Loose safety lever in fire position is generally caused by safety spring issue. Remove safety. Replace the spring or take spring out and stretch or expand it a little and should tighten the lever up when in fire position when you reinstall the lever. Or call Colt to replace safety lever spring. If lever is loose in safe position generally the plunger detent is not engaging lever positively.See 2 more answers | -
