Purchased a new Colt O1982CCS Competition 1911 in 9mm. Defective out of the box. Failed to eject spent casings properly leading to mis-feeds and stovepipes. Immediately sent back to Colt under the warranty. 3 weeks later I get a letter saying it will take 30 days (maybe) to repair. Colt says don't even bother calling to check on status until after that. Now I appear to be out of my brand new pistol for 7 weeks or so. So much for summer competition season. This is my 3rd Colt 1911, probably my last.

If possible, I would rate this product a 4.5. I have almost all good things to say about this gun. The sights are excellent. The grips are little goofy looking but feel great (and can easily be placed). The pistol handles great. The cut under the trigger guard is very nice. The pistol is awesomely accurate. In terms of a competition pistol (which it is and so named) this pistol is excellent, and I would rate it five stars. However, this competition pistol is still a pistol, and pistols by their very nature are designed as weapons. Unlike rifles and shotguns that may serve many purposes, pistols are and always have been a defensive (or offensive) close combat weapon. That said, this pistol will not shoot hollow points. Full metal jackets function flawlessly, but hollow points will not cycle (as is the case with many 1911 handguns). I did not purchase this gun as a defensive weapon, and there are many other handguns betters suited for that purpose. So, again, I am very satisfied with this gun. But I cannot give a weapon five stars that does not shoot anything and everything I feed it. If you want an excellent handgun for the range, there is no better. If you want something to save your life, I would consider a different choice.

Excellent out of box. No malfunctions. The finish is not very tuff, but works.
