Yes, the button at the top of the grip is the safety.

Crossbolt safety under the rear hammer. The round button under the hammer. It will disable the trigger but it won't disable the slide, slide will function in safe or firing position.

Yes, there is a cross-bolt type safety on the frame, the round textured button just above and to the right of the beretta logo on the grips.

Any after market mags that will fit the M1951? Seems all the surplus mags are darn near as high as the gun...:-D

Eve, yes, the serial number beginning with F character are the latest manufacture timeline for the ones beginning with a letter. The letter timeline goes backwards from there. Cheers and stay safe!

Michael, The Modello 1951 (M1951) was the first Beretta chambered for the 9 x 19mm (Parabellum) cartridge and also their first locked-breach pistol. This semi-automatic pistol was first placed on the market and adopted by the Italian Armed Forces in 1957. A commercial version, known as the M951 Brigadier, was produced for sale on the civilian market. Retaining traditional Beretta characteristics, the M1951 introduced a locked breach to handle the high-pressure 9mm Parabellum, a lengthened slide for improved balance, and a single column, 8-round magazine, ergonomic finger-rest extension. The M1951 was only produced with forged steel frames.

Zack unfortunately this weapon is not Commifornia compliant. Not for any good reason at all. It doesn’t have a high capacity or a short barrel. Those are the usual excuses. Previous answer insisted they were indeed steel... but one reviewer noted he received an alloy frame. DK Firearms is also offering '75 - '76 M1951s and they have alloy frames. Is it a hodgepodge of both? Or are they all alloy?

Matthew, I would not trust the guys review that said he had an alloy frame. Unless it was part of the Egyptian contract there were no alloy frame Beretta M1951s being made in 1976. They were all steel guns at that point of production.

Matthew,in this batch 99.9% will be All Steel pistols. I have no doubt that a very minuscule number of Alloy Frame models would be among these batches. These are bulk packed and stored shipments of surplus handguns and this likely is what contributed to reviewer discrepancy. Cheers and stay safe!

Matthew, These are all steel guns. Some early models and a special Egyptian contract had alloy frames. These surplus firearms are all steel. The initial production batch featured a lightweight alloy frame, which proved to be unable to withstand the shock of the relatively high-powered 9×19mm Parabellum round in the long run. This was replaced by the 'second series' model with a steel frame that proved to be totally adequate in endurance.

I heard the locking blocks on these crack after a few thousand rounds. Anyone know where to get one, NOS or reproduction?

Jerry, That was on the early run of alloy frames. These all steel guns will have no issues.

The Beretta M1951 is a very rare pistol in the United States, and it is Historically significant as Beretta’s first locked breech designed pistol. This design paved the way for Beretta to eventually design and produce the famous Beretta 92. The Model 1951 was produced from 1953 to 1980.
