The Ruger AR-556 Pistol features a lower receiver that is fitted with an adjustable pistol stabilizing brace to aid in accuracy, balance and recoil management, the slim 9" handguard is free-floating for accuracy and provides enhanced ergonomics and support. Magpul M-LOK accessory attachment slots along the 3:00, 6:00 and 9:00 positions. Made from aerospace-grade 7075-T6 aluminum forging, the flattop upper receiver includes a forward assist, dust cover and brass deflector. The bolt is machined from 9310 alloy steel and is shot peened and pressure (proof) tested to ensure strength, structural integrity and durability. The twist rate stabilizes bullets from 35 to 77 grains and the 5.56 NATO chamber allows the use of both 5.56 NATO and .223 Rem. ammunition. M4 feed ramps provide improved reliability and the matte black oxide finish reduces glare and provides corrosion resistance. A matte black oxide finish on the exterior of the bolt carrier provides corrosion resistance. A Ruger flash suppressor is provided, and the threaded barrel allows for standard muzzle accessories to be installed. Includes a 30rd Magpul PMAG.

This is a nice little home defense weapon or south 40 plinker. At the time of writing it seems everyone is feeling like they might need a good home defense weapon - or even an End of the World weapon. Lets hope not. Trigger is a little heavy but crisp and predictable. The weapon is small and handy and you may already have the added bonus of muscle memory from using your larger ARs. The small size combined with muscle memory will make you feel like you're already a pro with this one. Very pointable and also pretty lite makes it something you can be very quick with. I have numerous examples of the Ruger AR-556s in my collection, from MPRs on down to this. The reason is the price, there are just enough features and the quality is just good enough. Fit and finish is pretty good for the price. I think they are trying to crank these out even faster now to keep up with demand. Mine had a couple minor scratches. I put a Romeo 5 on top of mine and some metal Magpul flip up sights. Just get the metal ones. The dot sits right on top of the front post. Perfect co witness. The bolt carrier group seems a little stiff but I believe that will loosen up. Other good Home Defense choices include the Stribog and the CZ Scorpion. The Stribog is about 4 or so inches shorter giving you room for a can. Also, there are advantages to using 9mm vs 5.56 close up and inside. Heck, just do yourself a favor and get them all.

Terrible gun. It arrived and I took it to the range and it fails to eject spent shells. Attempted to contact Buds, whom I realize is likely overwhelmed these days, but have yet to hear back after three days. Not a happy customer. Called Ruger and they recommended trying different ammo which I will do. Poor quality right out of the box.

Perfect condition and fast shipping. Would have had it a day earlier if my FFL was not closed on Mondays. Love the pistol, the weight and balance are good. Only real downside is the amount of oil used for shipping.

Very nice firearm. Shots great with low recoil. Was missing the 2 small bolts to the hand guard. Other then that everything else was great.

Ruger AR 556 Pistol: I am very pleased with 556 pistol purchase and it has functioned flawlessly. I really like the price from Buds Guns ! Great home defense weapon , Great close quarters to mid range weapon and great size for storage ! Trigger is fair and SAB 3 brace is good. This pistol is a great purchase !

I own several other AR variants and have made a few of my own. I am familiar with this weapons platform. I also want to say that I’ve owned several Ruger pistols and a rifle in the past, and overall, am not a fan. With that being said, when I was shopping for an AR, I came across several manufacturers and after reviewing a lot of reviews on these manufacturers, the one name stands out, Ruger. The others had a mix of good and bad reviews but the Ruger reviews were mostly positive. Ruger in and of itself is a quality manufacturer of firearms, and, their customer service is second to none. My reasoning for purchasing an AR made by Ruger even though I don’t necessarily like their own designs is because, in this case, they are building a firearm based on an already established design. I wasn’t disappointed. Overall the platform cycled reliably with zero problems running standard Remington ammo. Once I dialed in the red dot to cowitness with the front sight, anything within 100 yards was a very easy off hand shot. Overall I like the short barrel, though it is a bit noisy. With that being said, I probably wouldn’t go below 10.5” as ballistics is already hampered with the shorter barrel. Any shorter and you might as well go with a pistol caliber. Overall 5 star in quality and function.

Let me say that I love this firearm...after I sent it back to Ruger. When I first received it, it wouldn't go completely into battery, after a few tries It wouldn't allow me to use the charging handle at all. Ruger took it back and fixed the problem within a week (faulty charging handle). Since then it has functioned amazingly with no further hiccups. I've put about 200 rounds through it using Pmags, Lancer mags, Hexmag, and GI style magazines with varying ammo and it has performed great! It was very accurate and soft shooting. I have it set up with Mbus flip up sights, a ROMEO5 red dot from Sig, and a Streamlight TL1 HL long gun light for a home defense option if needed, though it will likely just be a fun plinker for range trips.Extremely happy with my purchase overall and despite the initial issue, would definitely recommend the AR556 pistol.

Larry, CO has a 15d magazine capacity limit. I have heard from other members that if magazine capacity is the ONLY state restriction that some Buds personnel have offered to remove/replace magazines. I would contact Buds Customer Service to see whether or not they will at 1-859-368-0371 9am-9pm EST Mon-Fri. or use the Blue Chat now button at the bottom right corner 9am to 9pm Mon - Sat and 9am to 7pm Sunday.

Robert, Yes.The top rail is a standard pic rail. Magpul mbus sights will drop right on. Ruger has a pretty good set of back up sights that are very similar. Most back up sight sets will drop right on this rail.

no it does not require a tax stamp as it is classified as a pistol with a arm brace adding vertical grip or a full stock would make it a SBR (short barrel rifle) and would then require the tax stamp
