The Ruger AR556, like its more expensive cousin the SR556, is packed with features that fans of the Modern Sporting Rifle demand.

The AR556 is direct impingement gas-operated with a 16-inch 1:8 hammer-forged barrel threaded 1/2x28. Also featured is a windage-adjustable rear flip-up sight, a six-position telescoping M4-style buttstock with a Mil-Spec buffer tube, M4 feed ramps, a matte Type III hard coat oxide finish, enlarged trigger guard, a chrome-plated bolt carrier, and an A2-style front post sight with elevation adjustment, a bayonet lug and a Q/D attachment socket. This rifle also comes with one 30-round Magpul PMAG.

Great buying experience I saw the same gun at coastal for almost 200 dollars cheaper. Great prices I would definitely recommend buds to other people I will be returning for future purchases.

The ruger ar556 is a gas impingement rifle. Gas impingement differs from prison driven models in two ways: piston driven models are almost twice the price , and 2) you simply gotta clean your gas impingement model more often than a piston drive model because of the gunpowder residue that gets passed down the the tube to the bolt area of your rifle. So, if you are rich, then get a piston driven model like sr556. Otherwise, get the ar556 and keep your budget in balance as well, but just learn how to clean your action ( I don’t mind cleaning it). This gun is ruger quality: the barrel is nice and thick which you will notice when you unscrew the ruger delta ring that retains the handgrips. The front sight is machined from metal and is part of the gas block and I think that it gives the rifle a very high quality feel. The pistol grip is really nice custom ruger model and just fits and feels very good quality. There is a pop up rear sight just in case your scope gets knocked off ( again super nice quality feel to the gun). It uses mag pull magazines ( comes with a thirty round mag) and these really are very nice magazines which add to the quality and serviceability of this gun. I found that the buttstock felt just a little too short for me ( I am a large frame guy). So I added a limb saver rubber cushion ( you can get these anywhere for like $10 the kind that people use on shotguns all of the time ). It added just one inch of length to the gun which seems to work ok for me. You break down the rifle by pressing out the rear pin with your fingers and then pivot on the front pin for cleaning ( just slide the bolt out the rear and clean it up easy peezy) . I love the simplicity of the hammer mechanism which is exposed when you break open the gun as described above. The simplicity of operation and ease of cleaning disassembly and reassembly make this gun an instant favorite for me. It really gives you the feeling that you got your money’s worth at the $480 price range. I feel like I got MORE than my money’s worth with this purchase. The only downside to purchasing this ar is how much money you are gonna blow on ammunition down at the range because it is so very pleasurable to own and fun to shoot. Two thumbs up in this purchase from buds!

Solid entry-level AR. I have not had a problem with it thus far, and it\\\'s a very clean looking rifle. As suggested by others, DO NOT modify the rifle. This one is designed to function box-ready.

Lovely rifle. Brand new, in the box, as advertised. Shipped quickly. I am highly pleased. I have not shot it yet, but I have no doubt it will be a fine shooter.\r\n\r\nThanks, Bud\\\'s!

For the price, you probably cannot go wrong with this rifle. I would not say that I am overly impressed with it, I also own a S&W MP 15 Sport II. Side by side, the S&W is better. The ruger feels cheap, the furniture is garbage, the S&W feels solid. All furniture was replaced with Magpul, it was the least I could do. The S&W components are better as well. The finish on the Ruger is not very durable. One very annoying thing, the rear sight only has the long distance peep hole. The ruger had good accuracy at the range and had zero malfunctions. Overall, for the difference in price, I say go with the S&W. I\\\\\\\'m not sorry I bought it, for the money it gets the job done.

Bud\\\'s service was great. I received the gun on Christmas Eve, so the timing was perfect. I wanted a basic, entry level AR and that\\\'s what I got. I\\\'m not interested in customization, nor am I taking this into the field of battle. I wanted something to have fun with, maybe have for home defense, and give the finger to the political Left. The AR 556 fits the bill. So far I have put 280 rounds of Wolf 55 grain hollow points through it without a single malfunction. It\\\'s a lot of fun, I\\\'d trust it for home defense (though I prefer shotguns for that role) and is a great little rifle.

the gun is not MD compliant due to the 30 round magazine legally the way to buy a firearm for a person in another state is to have them open a Buds account then you purchase buds gift cards and give them the cards so they can buy the firearm. lately we have been told that Buds will ship a firearm with NO MAG if that is the only reason a gun is non compliant you will need to contact customer service (859) 368-0371 available 9AM to 9PM CST Monday through Friday or use the blue chat now button . we are not buds employees we are volunteers that answer questions

Steven, yes Sir. The barrel is stamped 5.56NATO so it will fire both 5.56 and the lower pressure .223 ammunition no issue.

L D, The AR-556 has a gas-impingement system, just like the original AR-15 rifle design and the Ruger’s SR series – use a gas piston and op-rod to unlock the bolt after firing. The SR is also much lighter making for quicker handling. Review details of the differences here : https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/gun-review-ruger-ar-556/

Ruger runs a proprietary bolt carrier (not full auto) and does not sell them to consumers so there is no liability due to head space problems from what I've been told. You can replace it with a full auto bolt group though. Any will fit.
