The Ruger AR556, like its more expensive cousin the SR556, is packed with features that fans of the Modern Sporting Rifle demand.

The AR556 is direct impingement gas-operated with a 16-inch 1:8 hammer-forged barrel threaded 1/2x28. Also featured is a windage-adjustable rear flip-up sight, a six-position telescoping M4-style buttstock with a Mil-Spec buffer tube, M4 feed ramps, a matte Type III hard coat oxide finish, enlarged trigger guard, a chrome-plated bolt carrier, and an A2-style front post sight with elevation adjustment, a bayonet lug and a Q/D attachment socket. This rifle also comes with one 30-round Magpul PMAG.

This is the 2nd rifle out of the box there was a problem with that couldn't be checked at FFL transfer now both rifles are being fixed at gun repair centers at my cost, one rifle was a new 2 year old model that wouldn't go into battery out of box and the other the paint on barrel is coming off sitting on a shelf to long then Buds tell's me to deal with manufacturer and "Century Arms are JERKS !" i'm a TEAM BUDS MEMBER and got old inventory that was defective out of the box.

Gun Review 1 Star, BUD's Gunshop Review Five stars. Ruger AR completely seized within the first 15 rounds of fire. Locked solid with live chamber in the round. May have been a fluke but couldn't see myself trusting this AR after that. Buds however was great took care of everything including the seized weapon which they finally were able with a hammer to remove the live round. Also then allowed me to return the weapon without hassle. Purchased a S&W Sport 2 instead. I typically love Ruger weapons can't see myself giving their AR's another chance though. Weapon had two stovepipes just prior to seizing completely. Not sure of the final report but i believe this was an indicator that something had failed inside the weapon. Again great service buds. On a side note very happy with my Ruger GP100

Product arrived defective with a major blemish right outside the ejection port. I did not accept the gun from the FFL. Filed an inquiry and hoping Buds can get me a new rifle sent out ASAP. These things happen.

Meh. Had a steel cases cartridge get stuck in the barrel after the 15th or so shot. Had to slam the stock to get it out. Then, after a few hundred rounds, the buffer spring retaining pin came out and jammed the whole gun up. Somehow the screw that keeps the stock on came loose. My gunsmith says that is not supposed to happen. He got it fixed up and shooting but now the bolt does not always lock back on the last round; let%u2019s say more than half the time. Could be a magazine issue, but the way this gun has been working, it%u2019s probably the gun. Kind of a lame experience thus far.

Great price and service from Buds! The rifle however experienced several problems, FTFs & FTE's. Hoping that a through cleaning will address any issues, if not, it's back to Ruger. Have several Ruger firearms, have had zero problems with any of them. Hoping issue will be resolved after break in...

This "Factory New" rifle has blemishes and scratches all over the barrel, the dust cover has scratches all over it. There are various scuffs, scratches, blemishes on this rifle in several places. buds gun shop must not look at the guns before selling them, and rugers quality control sucks. Its my first AR, Cant help but feel disappointed.

For the price, you probably cannot go wrong with this rifle. I would not say that I am overly impressed with it, I also own a S&W MP 15 Sport II. Side by side, the S&W is better. The ruger feels cheap, the furniture is garbage, the S&W feels solid. All furniture was replaced with Magpul, it was the least I could do. The S&W components are better as well. The finish on the Ruger is not very durable. One very annoying thing, the rear sight only has the long distance peep hole. The ruger had good accuracy at the range and had zero malfunctions. Overall, for the difference in price, I say go with the S&W. I'm not sorry I bought it, for the money it gets the job done.

Firearm perfect. Incredible price. Shipping was extremely fast. This was my first purchase and the only thing I would suggest to consumers is research your FFL that the firearm is going to. The FFL I used ended up being a great guy, but I didn't educate myself about their business hours before hand. Will do business with Bud's and Spider tactical again.

the gun is not MD compliant due to the 30 round magazine legally the way to buy a firearm for a person in another state is to have them open a Buds account then you purchase buds gift cards and give them the cards so they can buy the firearm. lately we have been told that Buds will ship a firearm with NO MAG if that is the only reason a gun is non compliant you will need to contact customer service (859) 368-0371 available 9AM to 9PM CST Monday through Friday or use the blue chat now button . we are not buds employees we are volunteers that answer questions

Steven, yes Sir. The barrel is stamped 5.56NATO so it will fire both 5.56 and the lower pressure .223 ammunition no issue.

L D, The AR-556 has a gas-impingement system, just like the original AR-15 rifle design and the Ruger’s SR series – use a gas piston and op-rod to unlock the bolt after firing. The SR is also much lighter making for quicker handling. Review details of the differences here : https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/gun-review-ruger-ar-556/

Ruger runs a proprietary bolt carrier (not full auto) and does not sell them to consumers so there is no liability due to head space problems from what I've been told. You can replace it with a full auto bolt group though. Any will fit.
