In 2003 the gunsmiths and engineers at Smith & Wesson wanted to deliver maximum power for serious handgun hunters. The power they sought required an entirely new frame, the massive "X-Frame," and was the basis for the new Model S&W500, the most powerful production revolver in the world. This ushered in the era of the "big gun" and was only the beginning. For ultimate power and velocity there's nothing even close to an X-Frame model handgun.

Love my S&w 500. It performs flawlessly, and has the power to take down anything you want it to.

This thing is a cannon! It's manageable with the Houge grips by using two hand grip and leaning into it when you shoot. Still love it. Buds is quick to ship as always, this not being my first and certainly not my last. Price is great too.

Very satisfied with this big guy. Buds took about 3-4 days to ship and once shipped it came in very quick. If you’re used to heavy calibers and hot loads the 500 is not hard to manage. The compensator makes recoil surprisingly mild. Once you upgrade to loads such as the 700 grain underwood lead rounds however, expect a sharper punch.

Very happy with this transaction. Want a handgun you can hike through Grizz. Bear country and know your weapon will do the job if needed ? This is it ! Bear, Elephant, Dinosaur , Trespasser ? You can take any or all out with this baby. I love it. Save your .44 Mag. for the kids. :)

Wow what a cannon. The recoil isn’t horrible but the boom and muzzle flash are ridiculous. It really gets people’s attention at the range. The weight of the revolver coupled with the hogue grip really make it manageable. My Ruger Super Blackhawk in 454 casull kicks substantially harder than this 500 S&W. Ammo is expensive so if you plan on shooting it regularly your gonna need to reload for it. The revolver arrived on time and in perfect condition. Buds was great as always.

This was a great gun, it felt nice in the hand, it was easy to fire with only a slightly than harder recoil than my .44 and it was surprisingly accurate, for such a powerful gun. The one and ONLY deal breaker was the ammo cost. I could run 350 rounds though my 9MM pistol for what 20 rounds of .500 mag cost me, so this is not a plinker and not very practical, unless you have an almost inexhaustible source of income. I ran 40 rounds through it and sold it to a gun shop, for about half of what I paid for it. I lost a lot of money, but would have lost a lot more, in the long run, if I had kept this gun.

Fantastic firearm. I could not be happier with my purchase. The 500 is a round that, while probably unnecessary, is a blast (no pun intended) to shoot. Will handle all factory ammo well with considerable recoil and accuracy...3 inch groups open sights at 20 yards. I know there is accuracy to be gained with a scope, but right now I'm enjoying carrying as a concealed carry weapon. If you're up in the air over purchasing this behemoth, go ahead and take the plunge. You'll be happy but your hand might be a little sore!

Yes, this and all other S&W revolvers chambered in .500 or .460 are built on the X-Frame.

Jonathan, Believe it or not the grips for the K and L frames will fit the X frames. Here are a couple here at BUDs----------

Charles the shorter barrel will have slightly more recoil due in part to the lighter weight and louder muzzle blast from the directional gasses being vented rather than expelled straight forward. It won't be too bad but, will be noticeable.

Buds claims to not open new firearm packages so it will be your FFL that will probably be the point of verification. if Buds ships it, it probably will have it as I don't think Buds is willing to catch a violation over this.
