Models starting with a P are made in Austria, ones with a U are made in the USA. So they're absolutely identical other than the country they were manufactured. Hope this helps.

It says matte black but is it the nldcs finish and will mine say Austria on the slide.

This has a nDLC finish, the matte black is either a typo or referring to the frame. Yes Austria is wrote on the side. Hope this helps.

I'm very pleased with the Gen 5 23. I use leather IWB holsters, so to fit the slightly wider slide was just a matter of dampening the holster with water. Put pistol in baggy and stick it in the holster and let it set overnight now it fits fine. Reason why I wanted a gen 5? I'm left-handed and tired of jacking around with right-handed setups. Shot three boxes various makers pistol is very accurate perfect cycle, pretty decent trigger. Mine is not gritty but could use a 3 lb connector maybe next payday. Love it !
