Is this gun too heavy for a small guy. I'm 5'3" and weight 160? it is 8 lbs.

Not at all! Most AR 15 with 16 inches heavy barrel hover around 7 - 8lbs....relatively LIGHT. I consider myself a light dude (140lb) and I found them to be super light....I carry them to hunt all the time. I hope this helps!

The rifle is still considered lighter, most ar platforms generally come in at about 6lbs and can push 10lbs

Jeff your good to go, the only way I'd say you should get a lighter weight rifle would be if you are using this as an actual duty/patrol rifle, if you work for border patrol, law enforcement l, or the military and you'll be carrying this all day, it would benefit you to get a lighter rifle, but for plinking, hunting etc, your good. Just get you a good sling (blue force vickers tactical, Magpul, or Viking tactical, etc....) and you'll not even know your carrying it. 160 is not a bad weight to be at for 5'3", I'm 6'2" and hover around 210, I have almost a foot on ya and only have 50 pounds, if I was 160 I id be undersized or if you were 210 you'd be a bit on the heavy side, but at 5'3" sounds about where you should be, if you feel you should be stronger hit the gym. We all could be in a little better shape, and even when carrying fitness can be a huge factor in self defense.
