Went to the range and shot both 3.5" and 3" shells of the Federal Premium Grand Slam Lead Shot #4,12 Gauge Ammo. At 40 yards I found that the 3" shells gave the best results in my shotgun/IM choke tube set up. The 3" #4 shot had 7 pellets hit the neck vertebrae and 2 pellets hit the brain. The 3.5" shells had 3 pellets hit the neck vertebrae only. I used an Improved Modified rather than Extra Full Turkey Choke Tube at 40 yards because I got poor results with the more constricted choke tubes. Because of my eyesight I limit myself to shooting no further than 40 yards.
