Are you able to take off the ghost ring site and /or mount a red. Optic in front of it? Or is that something that you would have to get an aftermarket rail for? I saw a picture on another site and was just wondering if it was possible or just BS?

Raymond, you would have to remove the rear sight. This is drilled and tapped so you would have to purchase a picatinny rail to install a optic. According to reviews the ghost sights comes off with a simple screw. Then you can add a rail. Hope this helps

Hi William, Magazine Capacity Limits: 1. a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device that has a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than 10 rounds of ammunition for long guns and more than 15 rounds of ammunition for handguns The way I read it is since this can hold 13 mini shells, and the gun is specifically designed to fire those mini shells, it would not be compliant. With that being said, you should seek advice from a FFL in your area who is more well versed in Illinois gun law than we are on here. . PS - James, the 5rd limit applies to semi-auto shotguns. Just the "Act" of loading more than the stated State capacity limit **In a Semi-Auto** is illegal by Law. Since Mossberg specifically "Designed" this to reliably feed Mini Shells and advertises the capacity as 13 + 1, this still would not preclude it from being NY Legal by stated Law as it only applies to *Semi-Auto's*. My opinion is that it is legal since it is a Pump Action but, please confirm with a local NY FFL Dealer on their opinion as they are most up to date on local Gun Laws. Cheers and stay safe!

My local FFL in NY has sold this model. They are very strict on compliance so I think they would know. But, you can double check with your local FFL.

CT has a LCM limit of 10 rds. At 1 3/4", there would be more than 10. How would a 10-max limt work?

Michael, this gun would not be CT legal. It doesn't matter what size shells you use, it has the capacity to accept 13 shells. This holds 13+1 in the chamber. So unfortunately this would be illegal in Connecticut. Sorry but hope this helps.

Michael, this is a standard Pump Shotgun. Capacity: 13 (1.75" Shells), 8 (2.75" Shells), 7 (3" Shells). Just don't use 1.75 inch shells if CT has the limit you speak of. Cheers and stay safe!

Action was very stiff right out of the box. Had to clean and lube everything to get the action to operate smoothly. Safety lever was also getting jammed up and needed taken apart and lubricated for proper operation. I had issues getting 2/34 shells to eject and had a few light primer strikes. More minor issue but the furniture is very loose on the hand guard and rattles when moving. For a $600 shotgun I would expect more from this product. Honestly, I have a 870 that I prefer over this one.

Great value from BudsGunshop.com as always. Firearm arrived quickly and without fuss. I am pleased with the fit and finish, note that for me it only holds 12+1 of the Federal Shortys in #4 buckshot. If there is one thing that needs improvement, the magazine screw cap should be tweaked so that the external side doubles as a choke wrench, doesnt seem like it would take much machining or redesign for such a feature.

I have been a fan of Mossberg firearms ever since I bought a well used 590A1 years ago. However, with this recent purchase of a 590S I see that quality control at Mossberg has seriously slipped. The front sight fell off soon after I started handling it. The action was very stiff and wouldn't fee dummy shells reliably. Not happy.

A worthy addition to the Mossberg 590 lineup, the 590s has so far cycled hundreds of mini-shells and 2 3/4 inchers for me in any order- as advertised. The debate about using mini-shells for self defense not withstanding, it is nice to be able to increase capacity to 13+1 if desired.

Excellent pump action shotgun that will, in fact, accept, chamber and shoot 12 gauge shells as small as 1 3/4" up to 3". Best pump shotgun I own so I bought two of them! One I keep with a rifled choke and the other with a full choke.
