The single best, and most economical arm for hunting and defense in the Old West was the side by side, double-barreled shotgun. Scores of thousands of these sidehammer scatterguns were a mainstay to settlers, miners, ranchers, gunfighters, and virtually anyone who needed a weapon. In times of civil unrest, many lawmen considered the scattergun as the best town tamer and express companies especially realized the value of these smoothbores and armed their messengers with them. Cimarron's 1878 Coach Gun, inspired by an original in Cimarron's collection, features a 20-inch barreled model, capable of handling 3-inch shotshells, with the traditional exposed sidehammers, a pistol grip stock and schnabble forearm, blued barrels and a color case hardened receiver. A very well made double barrel shotgun, fit and finish it excellent and the rabbit ear hammers are really a nice touch that makes it really looks like the original Old Time shotgun.

Really nice! I have wanted one of these for a long time. I am really happy with it. The wood is oil finish so it matches my Winchester lever guns. The break open is smooth. I just need to move the lever all the way to the right and the barrel drops open. Very smooth. I talked to Cimarron today and I can get a few extra screws and springs from them, so I couldn't be happier. Its always nice to have a few extra things.

First time ordering from Bud’s and super happy with the process. Shotgun arrived quickly and well-packed. Exactly what I was looking for. Nothing too fancy, but a well-made coach gun. I finally settled on this after chatting with a competitive cowboy shooter and couldn’t be happier.

Thank you Buds! Sweet shotgun!! Even my FFL dealer commented on the beauty of this shotguns wood and finish. Only fired two rounds so far but , so far so good!! A nice addition to my shotgun group!!

I really like this nostalgic looking shotgun. It's fun for my daughter to kill cans with. So far there hasn't been any issues. I would recommend it because it's fun and you don't run through ammo in the blink of an eye.

Initial delay in shipping after payment in advance with cash transfer from bank. Once arrived couple weeks later I picked it up. Initial inspection and assembly at Bud's were acceptable. Initial function tests, lockup and dry fire were all good. Finished metal work and bluing was marginal at best, yet acceptable. Test fire of 4 rounds 12 gauge 2 3/4" #8 shot functioned well and safely. The gun is heavy enough to minimize kick and maintain steady sight picture between both shots, one form each barrel. There is No Shell Extractor or Ejectors on this model 1878. It is old school traditional design and function. There is No Safety on this design with "rabbit ear" hammers and dual triggers. It is all on the shooter, as it should always be regardless of a manual safety or not. Glad I purchased it. Proud to add it to my collection.
