Colt Python Target 357 Magnum Revolver - 6 Rounds | 4.25" Barrel | Wood Grips | Blue/Black | Adjustable Sights

I received my blued, 4.5 inch Python last week and have been truly impressed. Buds handled the transaction flawlessly, as usual. This is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship. The quality is evident on every part of the revolver. Bluing is superb, and the target sights are solid and sturdy, a huge improvement over what I've seen on other revolvers. So far I've put about 50 rounds of .38 special through it, as well as about 15 rounds of .357. Not a single light primer strike or problem. The gun handles recoil extremely well, and is very accurate. Some minor critical comments: the cylinder release latch sticks a bit, and will take some time to "break in." I can already tell it's getting smoother, and I'm sure it will be fine. The other thing I noticed is that the finger grooves on the trigger tend to cut into the squeezing finger after a while. Not a big deal, just a minor irritant which I'll get used to. All in all, the blued Python is every bit as great as everyone says. I've heard that Colt is coming out with a blued Python in a 2.5 inch barrel, and I'll be looking for that one, too.

Thanks Buds! As always, a good deal. After week wait, it finally came. Beautiful gun! Compared it to an original Python. IMO its just as nice! Changed the front sight to a Wilson combat sight. Really helps with tired eyes. I like my 6 in., which in nice in itself. Just something about a blued one! Have yet to fire it, but I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

I took the gun to the range recently and I had to make an adjustment to the rear sight when I discovered, the rear sight does not use a "Click" type rear sight. Usually when you make an adjustment, you may move the rear sight using a screw driver by one or two clicks left or right. Not on these new Pythons or the Annaconda. On these rear sights, there is a small set screw that you have to use a small "Allen key" (Which is NOT provided), where you have to loosen and retighten every time you make an adjustment. And when you make the adjustment, there is no marking on the sight whether you are moving the sight left or right. Also, it is just a floating screw where you really don't know how far you are moving the sight. I have to say, this is the WORST rear sight I have ever seen. As for the handgun itself, it was fantastic. Nice heavy frame, great trigger, great feel. Unfortunately, someone inside of Colt, decided they wanted to save a few dollars in order to make more profit, and they took it out on the rear sight. Colt made a great handgun and added the worst rear sight you could devise. What a shame. I'm a Colt person and someone at Colt really needs to make a command decision and change that rear sight.

This new version of the Python has several features that are better than the originals [Thinking 1960's & 70's] and a few that are not as good. Better- The gun is overall a little beefier in the frame and top strap, and is closer to a model 586 in weight and feel. The new version seems as capable of digesting a full diet of .357's as a SW L frame, which was not the case for original Pythons. The trigger is as good as the old Python's at least as compared to the 5 original ones I own, with less felt stacking. Overall build quality is very good. The Cylinder release tends to stick, but this has gotten better as it has been used. The not as good- The bluing of the new Pythons is not as good as on the old guns, but Colt has made a very respectable effort. I can say the bluing of the new Python relative to the old Pythons, is better than the bluing of the new SW classic series relative to the bluing of those original guns. Some commentators also noted the use of 3 vents rather than 2 as in the original, which was said to be a style decision. The barrel is also 4 1/4" rather than the original 4". Neither is a big deal in my opinion. Overall, if you are looking for a Python to shoot, this is a much better choice than an original given the improvements in the actual gun.
