Hi Chad, there is no safety pictured, I think you are looking at the slide release. What optics base does this model accept?

RMSc (also called RMS/SMS) optics footprint

Hi James, the new Shield Plus Carry Comp does not use adapter plates, the optic will mount directly on the slide. The slide is cut with the RMSc footprint. Any RMSc compatible optic will work. Stay safe & have a great day!

Hi James and welcome. The M&P9 Shield Plus has an RMSc (also known as RMS/SMS) optics footprint. This means that any red dot sight designed for the RMSc standard will fit directly onto the Shield Plus without needing an adapter plate. Cheers, stay safe and enjoy!

If racking the slide is an issue then I'd suggest looking at the Shield EZ models. The slides rack back with little to no effort! My wife has the Shield EZ .380 and is able to manipulate the slide easily. Here are what is available on Buds site. https://www.budsgunshop.com/search.php/q/shield+ez

Sold my p365 xl that I had ported to buy the shield comp and don’t regret it one bit absolutely awesome pistol, I have 400 rounds through it and hasn’t disappointed yet very accurate at 25 yards specially with the cyelee pro cat optic, highly recommend both pistol and optic.
