I am a super lefty, so I had to try this left handed bolt. This rifle when sighted in had me popping squirrels in the head at 50-60 yards. Excellent bolt action and super accurate. Savage you nailed this one.

I really didn't need another .22lr rifle, but, being a lefty, I had to give it a try. After a lifetime of reaching over the barrel to reach the bolt, it was a joy to simply reach up and load the next round. Light weight, shoots well.

Excellent rifle for a left-handed early teen. The wood stock lends a classic flair, and overall fit and finish is the usual Savage excellent. Highly recommended, wish more southpaw rifles were available.

This is a great lefty rifle. Upon opening the box and inserting the bolt, it felt a bit tight at first. My daughter whom I bought it for couldn't actuate the bolt, so I was concerned. Once we got to the range and I put 10 rounds through it, the bolt seemed to "break in". She worked it great after that. The smile on her face said it all. Great starter rifle.

    Very easy, pretty much any sling swivel mount bipod will just attach to the front swivel. I prefer Harris Swivel bipods like this but there are also similar cheaper ones: https://www.budsgunshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/147924/harris+bipod+6-9+hi+bnch+self+level

    Michael, The short answer is yes. The biggest concern is whether the shorts will feed reliably from the .22lr magazine.
    According to Savage - "Our rimfire 22LR firearms are capable of shooting both long and shorts. However, since it specifically made to shoot long-rifle ammunition, the shorts may not function properly."
    While tube fed guns usually work fine, the shorts may not feed reliably from the .22lr magazine.
    Also - It may affect accuracy. Rifles that are designed to shoot .22 Short ammunition, exclusively, usually have a 1:20 twist rate, where .22 LR rifles use a 1:16 twist rate. Also, shooting a steady diet of .22 Shorts will create a carbon ring where the mouth of the .22 Short cartridge case lets go of the bullet in the chamber. If that is allowed to build up in the chamber, then .22 Long rifle cartridges can become a bit more difficult to fully chamber. So, to prevent that carbon ring build up, after a couple of hundred rounds of .22 Shorts, scrub the chamber with a bronze brush and solvent.
