The fit and finish of the pistol was immaculate. I fired 150 rounds at the range using the supplied magazine and 3 wilson combat magazines. No malfunctions in the initial 150 rounds. The pistol is plenty accurate at 10 yards, although i didn't spend enough time with it to really see what the pistol is capable off. The extra weight from the steel frame seems to settle the recoil down significantly from the already mild recoiling 9mm. If I choose to modify this pistol I would start with wilson combat sights, maybe a WC trigger, and ivory grips. The wilson combat magazines are the only way to go with any 1911, I guess that's why Colt only gives you one. The superior construction of the wc magazines is obvious compared to the colt mag.

I highly recommend a complete wipe down and thorough examination of the firearm before completing the FFL transfer. The firearm I received had a defect on the side of the slide from the factory and unfortunately due to the heavy oil on the firearm at the transfer I didn't see the defect on the side until I got home and completely wiped down the firearm. I am very unhappy with the defect and feel this firearm defect should have been caught at Colts factory at inspection and it should have never been shipped out to Buds in the condition it was in. The 2 factory magazines feel very cheap. This was my 1st Colt purchase and it will be my last. I will never purchase another. I did within the 1st 50 rounds have multiple failures to eject. The only positive thing I have to say iis the gun is accurate.

After three weeks I got my Colt from Bud's and was in love. It deserves five stars. It's black, not gunmetal blue, and is drop-dead gorgeous to my eye. It's heavy, significant feeling in the hand. Overall, it exudes quality—an heirloom. The gun is a five, but based on Bud's shipping and on Colt's brutally awful customer service, however, I have to rate this experience a three. First, I know everybody loves Bud's. I've bought three guns from them and rate them as good, but not as great. They are always slower than Amazon, and if you have a problem, their customer service is mediocre. That's my experience. I give Bud's four stars, but add that their consistently low prices and amazingly complete stock has me a repeat customer. Bud's is miles ahead of Colt. When I got the Colt, I took it to the range and it could not get through a clip without a failure to feed or failure to eject. I did that for about 300 rounds and gave up. I contacted Colt. They had a number of hoops I had to jump through to prove I had bought the gun (much different than S&W, who ask no questions and fix your firearm promptly), but once they were convinced they sent me a mailer. Bluntly it took them six months to get the gun back to me. They didn't answer email, had long wait times on the phone—just about ever poor customer service trick in the book. One star for Colt's Customer Service. The gun is fixed. It's not as accurate as my Springfield .45, my Colt Delta Elite or (surprisingly) my Kahr CM9, but it's more accurate than my Colt Defender. I've done about 500 more rounds and it's far from broken in, which speaks to the tightness of its assembly. Again, five stars for the gun itself. So, a mixed experience. Three stars.
