Its hard to tell from the picture, but is this model the round or square butt grip?

Hi Matthew, from my research I have found that all new 686 + .357 L frames are produced with a round butt. You can go to Hogue's website and purchase a conversion in order to make the round butt grip into a square butt feel if that's what you prefer.

Measureable difference in cylinder width between 6 and 7 shot?

It is at or near the same diameter. The bolt circle of chambers is the same diameter so the outer chamber wall is the same thickness and the frame did not have to be changed to align the barrel. The webs between the chambers are thinner, but obviously strong enough to pass proof testing and regular use.

Gene, overall width no, the difference will be more visible in the "between the round hole" cylinder wall difference.

Absolutely love this new firearm. This was a collection want. Used .357 and .38 ammo. Shot flawlessly. Single and double action. Definitely not the recoil I thought I was gonna get. Way smoother than any my carry 9mm. Had it at ffl in 3 days along with $100 rebate for purchase in 2 weeks going online. Buds and S&W did great!!

5 stars all the way! You can't go wrong with a Smith & Wesson .357. I have shot many and own two. Very accurate and relatively cheap to shoot especially with .38 special wadcutters. Clean trigger. We bought the 4" version but the 3" model might be next!

The S&W 686 has a great feel and balance. The stainless steel finish looks good and is easy to clean. The trigger is smooth at release and has a single action release of about 4-5 pounds. The double action release is heavier, as expected, at 8-10 pounds. The sights are adjustable and highlighted for to easily acquire the sight picture. It runs .38, .38+ and .357 flawlessly and shoots better than I can. The best part is that it was $120-150 less at Bud's than other dealers. The only negative I can say is that the trigger is is a darker and doesn't seem to fit the appearance of the rest of the gun.

Absolutely beautiful revolver From Smith and Wesson. You can always expect top craftmanship from S&W. The gun works flawlessly and shoots anything you feed it without any problem. Recoil is obvious but not unmanageable. As with all my other purchases from Bud's Gun Shop, Delivery to my FFL went smoothly and quickly. I strongly recommend this revolver if you are in the market and can afford the hefty price. It's worth it. AG
