Well ...yes and no. This has an aluminum alloy frame with a stainless steel cylinder and stainless barrel. I own one... a great little carry gun.

I went to swap out the original grip on this revolver only to realize I do not have the tip needed to do so. It’s rather embarrassing to ask but I never looked & assumed it was flat tip, nope. Not cross tip either. But once I know I can buy or borrow what I need. Thx.

If I recall correctly Tim, that is an allen screw, that takes an allen, or hex, wrench. If you look closely it would resemble a ';honeycomb' shape inside the screw hole. Just make sure you have the correct size that fits snugly into the head of the screw to avoid stripping out the shoulders on the inside of the screw head. Wallie World has some Stanley Allen wrench sets that I have bought to carry in my range bag - they're inexpensive and of fairly good quality, fold up compactly and are 'attached' to the handle so they're easy to keep up with - fold up and close sort f like a picket knife. I think that would solve your situation. . If the screw is not a hex/allen head screw then it would be a torx type - resembles a star inside the screw head. Took to the range couple days ago, trigger is nice smooth and predictable. Ran a good 60 rounds of different loads light ti heavy. (Ran probably 100-200 pulls with snap caps at home first.) I shot the 642 and lived it but wanted a hammer so got this. Hopefully will continue to like it. Fits wonderfully in my pocket with a good sticky holster.

Very nice 5 shot revolver (my first) from S&W. Shipped very quickly from Buds to my local FFL. I really like having the shrouded hammer as I use this gun for pocket carry. The trigger is very heavy, so I would highly recommend you get a Wilson Combat Spring Kit. It's like $10 and install videos are on YouTube. Upon installation I had a much smoother trigger pull which thus increased my accuracy at the range. It's a beauty to shoot now! I run +P hollowpoints in this and carry a speed loader for backup rounds. Very nice gun from S&W! You'll love the 638 just get the spring kit for the smoother trigger pull 👍😎🤠

Initially is was wondering about the quality of the alloy frame.......my concerns were set aside when I took the gun to the range......The smith and wesson quality is present in this less expensive revolver.....fit and finish are very nice and the action of the revolver was smooth right from the factory....after shooting it a few times I removed the side plate and did some minor polishing on parts, I also installed some crimson trace grips. The 638 is great gun for its size and weight. Taking time to be proficient with it is the fun part.
