The Ruger American Target .22WMR It took me a year to make the decision to buy this gun. I wanted a 22 mag mostly for target and partly for hunting small game out to 100 yds. I have a 22 lr and a 223 so this fills the gap. And what a nice round it is. Not as fast as the 17 but hits harder and fairly flat shooting. I was looking at this gun and a CZ and after all the considerations decided on the Ruger for a few reasons. The flush fitting 9 rnd magazine, bull barrel, hammer rifling, threading for silencer, laminate stock, Picatinny and don't forget pricing were the major factors in my decision. Plus it's a good looking gun too! So how do I like it? Overall it's a beauty. I have only put maybe 150 rnds through it but it seems like its a shooter. I have probably an average of 2 moa at 50 yds. BUT the thermometer is hovering around 0 in the afternoon when I get to go out and I'm damn cold and I shake so, undoubtedly it's me not the gun. I have a Leupold 4.5-14 on it and its dialed in I just cant hold the gun steady enough. I know with warmer temps and a few more rounds it'll do sub moa. The only negatives I have found so far are 1) The extractor wouldn't pull shells and after close examination it wasn't the extractor but the way the magazine fit into the well. I had to take a file and file the forward edges of the magazine so the rim of the case wouldn't hit it on ejection. And I filed the back of the mag because I noticed if I held pressure on the mag while cycling the bolt the bolt would hit the rear of the mag and either stop or have a rough closure. I bought an extra mag from Ruger, same problem. No biggie but you shouldn't have to do that. The only other area of concern is that the bolt when closed seems to be maybe a couple thousandth's back from fully seated. I can make it fully seat if I put pressure on it but as soon as I let go it slips back. This leads to a little fouling on the bolt face and residue on casings after 20 rnds or so but I don't think it's enough to be really concerned over. I can be nit picky but it doesn't affect accuracy so I can live with it. Overall I'd say it's an excellent gun. Weighted nice, comfortable, accurate, great trigger and easy on the wallet and eyes.
