Beretta 92FS Compact Inox w/Rail 9mm - Stainless/Silver, 13+1 Rounds, Polymer Grips

The fire arm is pretty bad ass and just fun as hell. But I had night sights put on before I ever shot it. Also bought an nice holster for it which I was having a hard time finding one. Well the holster and pistol was a good pair until I changed the sights. Now it won’t fit in the holster. Any way the pistol is good fun an accurate. It is smaller than an M9 but not by much. I wouldn’t call it a compact myself. Long story short, Iwasn’t a fan of the 9 but now I own 2 beretta 9’s because they are fun at the range and the ammo is cheap. Great pistols.

Love this pistol. Fits in my hand perfect. I have fired 100 rounds thru it. No problems. I have tried the full size 92. This model feels better to me. What more can I say? It is a great semi-auto. One more thing. Shopping with Buds is a quick, easy, and a pleasure.

I took delivery of this pistol from my FFL dealer on January 28, 2019. My goal with this review is to let readers know what to expect if they purchase this pistol, particularly providing information in areas that have been subjects of questions, but are not addressed in the product description. I had actually intended to purchase the full-sized Beretta 92FS Inox for my collection, but by the time I "pulled the trigger" on ordering, they were out of stock at the Qualified Professional pricing. I had determined that I really wanted the Stainless/Inox finish this time, having owned more than a half-dozen blue finished 92's in the past. So, I decided to give the Compact a try, in the full knowledge that it would hold fewer rounds and would only be slightly smaller than a full-sized Beretta. I was also aware that this pistol has an accessory rail, unlike the full-sized Inox model, and therefore DOES NOT fit in most holsters made for a standard Model 92. In fact, unless you are talking about cheap Nylon models, there are very few "off the rack" holsters available at the moment for the 92 Models that have rails. Beretta does have a couple on their website, however. My pistol came packed in a Beretta blue plastic box which was of noticeably lower quality than I have received on previous Beretta purchases. It holds the gun and accessories well, it just seems a bit flimsy compared to what the company used to provide. It is certainly no worse than boxes from other manufacturers these days. Looking inside, I found a very nice looking stainless steel/anodized aluminium pistol, that wore a set of Beretta's thin plastic checkered grips. These are noticeably thinner than the cushion grips that come on the full-sized Inox models, which for me was great, because I have small to medium hands for a man, and this new Compact was easier for me to reach the trigger on in DA than other Beretta's I have handled. They were held in place by hex-head screws. My pistol was marked "Made In USA" with roll marks that indicated it was manufactured in Gallatan, TN, meaning it is of recent production. My LEO version of this pistol shipped with a total of three 13 round magazines, as opposed to two which come with the civilian model. One final note, in terms of the appearance of the pistol, it is quite striking, but mine had some disappointing black "flecks" on the stainless slide that never should have left the factory that way. Cleaning solutions did not remove them, in fact, they had to be removed with light contact from some fine Scotchbrite pads. Hopefully this is only a production defect on my sample, and they did clean right up. Out of the box, with an empty magazine in place, the pistol weighed in at 31.5 ounces. The double action trigger pull was 10.5 pounds, while the single action pull was set at 4.5 pounds. Both pulls were crisp. I think the weights are fine, and in my experience with Beretta, will lighten up and smooth with time and use. I had no trouble at all managing the double action to single action trigger pull transition. Running my hands over the pistol revealed no sharp edges, except for the tip of the front sight, which is to be expected. Speaking of sights, these are three dot units, but on the Inox gun are dull red in color which is pretty, but not as visible as white might have been. The overall feel of the controls was smooth, with the notable exception of the magazine release button, which requires significantly more force to push than my other Berettas, although it does work. If my sample is any indication, you will never accidentally drop a magazine out of this pistol. The Compact version saves you about 3/4 of an inch in overall length compared to the full-sized gun, and about 1/2 inch of height at the butt of the gun. This does not sound significant but it does change the feel of the gun a bit and I find I prefer the Compact. But, if you have large hands, there is a curved lip at the bottom of the magazine that may cramp your fingers just a bit. I had on hand some factory 17 round magazines with X-Grip adapters, and when placed in the Compact significantly increase the capacity, and leave you with a pistol that feels like the old Beretta Centurion. The gun feels great this way, and I like the fact that I can make it smaller or larger based on my needs. I will probably run the 13 round magazine in the gun for concealed carry, and use a 17 rounder as my spare. The 92FS Compact features an accessory rail, and I was able to easily mount a TLR-1 full-sized light on it. This changes the feel of the pistol to make it a bit more muzzle heavy and this increases speed of follow-up shots a bit. Now a word about what is made of metal on this pistol and what is plastic, since I have read conflicting reports on this. On my sample, all controls, with the exception of the magazine release button (which is plastic, feels like crap, and which I will change out) are made of metal. I confirmed this by use of a magnet. The recoil spring guide rod on my pistol is also metal. Speaking of the safety, mine has the newer, slightly upward angled safety lever that is more resistant to accidental application during slide manipulation. I racked the slide overhand very fast, dozens of times, and could not put the safety on with this motion, whereas it is relatively easy to do (and disable your gun) with an older 92. I think Beretta has this problem solved. Finally, as opposed to the newer full-sized 92A1 versions of the pistol, the Compact does not utilize the Nylon shock absorber in its recoil system. I found the sights to be perfectly regulated for the 124 grain NATO ball ammo I use for practice, and found that the weight of the Compact made it recoil much less and get back on target faster than any of my polymer framed guns of the same size. Accuracy was on the order of 2 inch groups at the 15 yard range I had available today. Federal 124 grain HST's fed flawlessly, felt exactly the same in recoil as the NATO rounds, and shot slightly smaller groups. The overall feel in the hand of the pistol is one of a solid piece of machinery built to last a lifetime. As I get older I find that I want shooting to be more of a pleasure than a chore, after 40 years of daily carry. This pleasure includes how the gun looks to me. This Beretta 92FS Compact Inox ticks all the right boxes for me, and really stands out on the shooting bench in a sea of ugly plastic blasters that everyone seems to own these days. This pistol is a very "soft shooter" and I think it will have a role in introducing new people to shooting when they go with me to the range. At $600, which is what I paid for mine, it isn't the cheapest pistol out there, but I think it is well worth the price, especially with the QP discount. As always, Buds Gun Shop service was top notch.
