M855 is often called "green tip" ammo. The tip of the projectile is marked green to denote a steel "penetrator" in the lead core. This type of ammo is often prohibited for use at indoor shooting ranges. Hollow points are meant to not penetrate but for the target to absorb the energy from the bullet making them a better choice for self defense.

Samuel, no, green tip is like fmj but it has a steel core so it penetrates hard objects easier. If you shoot steel targets at the range I would not recommend green tipped ammo because it will go straight threw it or damage the steel plate. This is penatrator ammo. Hope this helps.
