SKS Type 56. All in all it’s a good purchase. The stock was intact, no splintering. Just your normal wear and tear. Just Nicks and scratches in the wood. The metal had small pitting in the ‘hard to clean area’, but for the age I expected worse. A lot worse. I expected to have to really put in the elbow grease to restore this into shooting condition, like sanding, and taking it down to the bare metal. Once I got cosmoline off and saw the rifle for what it was.. I was like oh hell yeah, this is gonna be easier than I thought. With the normal blemishes described above, and a good oiling, after stripping the cosmoline .. the first shooting session was a blast! It’s a good rifle. Shoots straight every time.. with no malfunctions to date. I love it. Should have picked up two.

It took forever to get all the cosmoline off of it but in the end it was well worth it. It was far more accurate than I thought it would be and fun as hell to shoot

I absolutely love this rifle. And the restoration process was right up my alley. Got lucky and received one with trench art on it. Runs just as good as im sure it did in the 70s when it was made. Very easy to shoot, clean, date, upgrade, handle, and love lol.

I was expecting a beat up, actually used rifle. And that's exactly what I got, very cool gun. I've been collecting surplus firearms with my father and uncles over the years and we've all seen some very good/bad pieces. I got a beauty, has nicks, dents in butt, scratches, some very small rust spots and best of all everything matches in numbers. Original cleaning kit and swabs are still in stock. Push rod, bayonet, I mean everything is complete. Very happy customer, thanks Buds

SKS came in with all matching numbers and no cracked stock. But it wasn't perfect, it did come with some pitting on the receiver and the stock was beaten to hell. If you are looking for a perfect SKS do not get it from here, but if are looking for a well-priced one then you should buy.

My SKS came CAKED in cosmoline, but was in overall pretty good condition, all things considered. The blueing on mine is fading, but I think it looks really cool. The stock has a few dents, but no cracks so I’m happy. Almost everything matches besides the dust cover, which is a bummer but nothing serious. Overall I’m really happy with it, would have been cool if the numbers on the dust cover matched but besides that I think it’s perfect.

Decent for the price and being MILSURP. My SKS was really loaded with cosmoline which took a few hours to strip and clean. Youtube videos helped immensely. Some parts were very stubborn to come out but determination and lots of mineral spirits did the job. Metal parts are in decent shape with some surface rust. Wood had no cracks or splits, but many gouges and divits. I had not yet had a chance to take it to the range, but will soon. Just remember that it is a surplus rifle with much use at least 50 years old and not a "safe queen".

It seems that people have had mixed luck with these SKS, mine was bad. The SKS I received is basically a $400 paperweight. It was missing the firing pin and the retaining pin, the handguard is cracked all the way down, the butt plate is rusted through, and the bottom of the receiver is so badly pitted that I'm afraid to try to shoot it. The only good thing on the gun is that the bayonet looks brand new. It's not Bud's fault because there's no way they would have known this since there was so much cosmoline on the gun that you couldn't work the bolt until a lot of it was cleaned off. I would definitely have been willing to pay more to have one hand picked.

Very pleased overall. Expect to clean a ton of cosmoline from the rifle. My stock had the usual dings and gouges, but I was quite surprised after some of the cosmoline was removed that there’s still a nice finish and color left in stock. No cracks or repairs, and all the parts have matching numbers, including the stock. There was a little bit of rust and light pitting in small areas around the base of the magazine, but by no means a big deal at all. Considering how old these rifles are and what they’ve been through, I’m quite happy with what I got.
