Cimarron 1885 High Wall Sporting Rifle 45-70 Goverment, 30" Octagon Barrel - 1 Round | 30" Barrel | Walnut Stock | Wood

So-called the "High Wall," because the receiver's high sides conceal all of the hammer except for it's spur, the 1885 Model Winchester was the brainchild of 24-year old John Moses Browning, who patented the design in October of 1879. Between 1880 and 1883, the Browning brothers produced about 550 rifles in Ogden, Utah. However when an arms dealer and Winchester agent saw one, he immediately sent a sample to Winchester in New Haven, Connecticut. Vice president and general manager, Thomas G. Bennett, was so impressed with the gun's simplicity and ease/speed of operation that he personally traveled from New Haven to Ogden to purchase the rights to the rifle. After incorporating some minor improvements, Winchester began manufacturing the "High Wall" in 1885-1920, with about 139,725 rifles built! Cimarron is proud to offer the 1885 High Wall Sporting Rifle replica in the more stylish "Thin Side" style with a plain, straight walnut stock or a deluxe pistol-gripped, hand checkered stock and forearm--both with tapered knurled tips. Our High Wall is available in a richly blued, 30-inch octagon barrel and butt plate, a color case -hardened receiver, hammer, lever and single trigger and adjustable buckhorn rear and either a pinned blade front sight.

After adding a leather butt pad, this gun has actually become a pleasure to shoot. Prior to that, the recoil made me aware of that mysterious connection between shoulder and brainstem. It may have even evoked some past life memories. Having owned the Henry 45-70 single shot, I knew what I was getting into with this purchase, but I thought the extra weight of this Cimarron 1885 reproduction would do much absorbing. Drive a car without suspension on a road full of potholes and you'll get the idea. The heavier the car, the more felt recoil. I have no aspirations of being a Tom Selleck double, so I find no shame in adding cushion to this beast of a rifle. The gun itself is absolutely beautiful. I leave it out just so I can look at it and occasionally fondle the buttery smooth lever action. Hickock 45 sold me on purchasing this firearm. If you're thinking about this gun, start with the Hickock 45 review. I assume anyone who is in the market for a gun of this vintage and caliber knows what they are getting into. Italy has given us Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. Surlely they can give us a rifle that shoots straight and lasts for centuries. I don't see how you could go wrong with yet another Italian work of art.

Just received this fantastic looking and shooting Cimarron made by Uberti 1885 Winchester High Wall in 45/70. The fit and finish is fantastic and very well made with great looking color case finish. I did found a small amount of rust dust in barrel but cleaned out fine most likely from sitting a wile in storage at warehouse. I shot 20 rounds at 50 yards and was on the money and fun to shoot, a little heavy but was no problem with an old shooting stick. Just also ordered a Marbel tang site with screws just made for this 1885 Uberti and look forward to long range shooting. A great buy from Bud's and they are the very best place to purchase any weapon with fast free shipping. Thankyou :)

I don't normally leave reviews, but this rifle is outstanding. I was amazed at the quality of the case hardening and the octagon barrel is a nice touch. The picture doesn't do it justice. This is a very high quality, practical rifle. It will make a perfect woods gun. Everything from the sights to the action are just right. Get you one while they are available!
