This thing is a tack driver. I threw an arken scope on it to stay in the spirit of budget precision, and hot diggity dog, this rifle puts holes right where I want them every time. You could clap a gnat at a hunnerd yards. It's heavy as all get out but this thing shoots so far you can hit targets at your favorite shooting spot a half hour away from the comfort of your front porch. The action isn't smooth in any sense of the word but I didn't buy it for smooth fast shooting. Besides, if you've priced out 6.5 creedmoor recently, you'd understand the benefit of not being to crack off $150 in ammo in 5 minutes. 5 stars would buy again.

Excellent shooting gun, extremely accurate, havent taken out past 100 yards yet. Cant wait to get out to the long range, still breaking in, 80 shots through it. Love it, worth the price.

Being interested in an affordable long-range shooter and being a fan-boy of Savage for so long, I was naturally drawn to the Axis II Prec.
As an "entry level" offering, you expect to have to compromise in certain ways in order to get this price. However, after having received my purchase from Bud's and having put a couple hundred rounds down range, I feel like the value (price compared to options/performance) are way above reasonable expectations. On paper, the MDT single-billet aluminum is an upgrade feature. It makes this chassis, in my opinion, as solid (if not more) and accurate compared to other competing offerings (See Ruger precision rifle, Remington 700, Howa Oryx, Bergar BH14, etc). The adjustable cheek and LOP are nice and make this gun adaptable and customizable to the shooter. The on-board piccatiny rail is nice and allows mounting of optics right out of the box. The Accu-trigger is amazing. If you've shot one, you know. If you haven't, you need to. Crisp and easy breaking. No travel. Adjustable. It's dynamite. The only compromise it the bolt. It is not as clean and smooth as others, but its understandable. If you want the 10/110 smooth-as-glass cycling, you have to pay more, so I get it. Hopefully, this bolt will get worked in a bit, or I'll work on polishing some touching surfaces. It doesn't affect performance, so I'm fine with it, but it is the one nit that I feel like picking about this weapon.
I mounted the Vortex Viper 6-20x50mm on this and took it to the range. NOTE - you may feel inclined to put something with greater magnification on this. If you are purely shooting longrange from a rest, maybe that's the right call for you. As I intend this to be a functional whitetail deer rifle and a longrange rest gun, I want to be able to back down the magnification. For me, 6-20 is the perfect compromise. At first, I didn't have a die set or components for hand-loading, as this is my first foray into 6.5 creedmoor ownership. So, I tested 3 different off the shelf finished cartridges - Hornady American Whitetail (129gr Interlock), Norma Match (130gr match) and Remington Core-lokt (140gr SP). All shot fairly well. The Norma Match performed very well allowing for a .58" 3-shot group at 200yds. Handloads are being worked up now, but I expect great performance and accuracy for range and field applications. I had concerns about the 22" barrel, but decided that the loss of velocity (about 100fps compared to a 26") was not enough to bother me at my expected ranges (600 yds and in, normally). The heavy barrel improves accuracy and to me, that's a better trade off.
So... I love this gun, especially at the pricepoint. I had it shipped from Bud's (best price online, and the only availability right now) to my local FFL. It arrived one day ahead of the delivery expectation. Final transfer was easy as always. The trigger on this rifle is outstanding. The heavy 22" barrel is super accurate. The bolt is not as smooth as in some higher end models, but is sufficient and not sloppy. Just a little rough. The accuracy is sub-moa. Fantastic purchase, more than satisfied with the outcome.

I love the way this rifle looks I am a savage fan and have been for years just look in my gun safe .Buds is my go to place to buy firearms and accessories an excellent company to do business with.I have not fired my rifle yet the reason being I have not found a bore guide that will work with the MDT chassis.I have ordered all components with anticipation of breaking in the barrel in ,but when the bore guide does not work I have to put everything off till I figure it out.

Q: Has anyone had issues with shells ejecting? I've heard mixed reviews about the bolt being sloppy.

A:Hi Kyle and welcome. I do not own this model but, I have seen a few incidents on youtube where this has happened to earlier versions of this rifle. Haven't found any issues reported with the current model. Cheers, stay safe and enjoy!See 1 more answer | -

A:Christopher, this is a bolt action rifle, Bud's description is not accurate. It is CA compliant, just not a semi-auto. -
