The action is a bit stiff and isn’t as smooth as my 870. After breaking it in however, it feels much better. I believe I still might have to send it in to get checked out. Besides the action being stiff, it often fails to extract and feed rounds. This is fixed with a little elbow grease to get em in and out. Bottom line, I believe this model of the 590a1 is a failure compared to the rest. My issues are very common among other owners of this particular model.

I ordered the model 50776 Mossberg on a Tuesday and got it by Friday. Buds is a good gun store. The gun came double boxed and in perfect condition. I originally had some confusion about which model it was on the website. I went to Mossberg and asked about model 50776. It doe not have the plus two mag extender as shown in the photo. The model I received was introduced Feb. of 2016 and has a 6 round magazine. The cleanout cap is a ways behind the end of the barrel, not flush as in the photo. This was exactly what I wanted. It has the smoothest action out of the box I have ever felt. I Like everything about this shotgun. This is one I will pass down.

I purchased a Mossberg 590A1 18.5 inch barrel, 7-round capacity, #50776 'Bead Front Sight'. My purchasing experience could not have been better. The sales representatives are helpful, friendly, not overbearing and will go out of their way to assist you in any way they can. At least this has been my experience. Prices are good. I searched the InterWeb high and wide, if there is a better price with immediate availability, I couldn't find that retailer. I originally wanted the 590A1 #50774 'Ghost Ring Sight (GRS)', but I was not able to find one 'in-stock' at a price I wanted to pay. I even went to the trouble of placing an order when I knew it was 'Backordered - No EDD'. That didn't work. I cancelled that order. This is a home defense shotgun, at least its why I bought it. After doing more research on the InterWeb, I found out my original premise for wanting GRS wasn't exactly what I thought. I presumed GRS had completely superceded the old 'Bead Front Sight' for up-close and personal social interaction, rendering it obsolete. Nothing could be further from the truth. Ghost Ring Sights, can be used 'up close and personal', but the primary use for them is to extend the range of the shotgun beyond 25-yards. Distances in my Townhouse don't come anywhere near that. Besides, if bad things are happening 25-yards, or beyond, I have better solutions. The longest shot in my Townhome is ~30 feet. Subtract the length of the shotgun, and the longest shot becomes 26 feet and some change. It's my belief, for 'instictive shooting', nothing beats the 'Bead Front Sight'. In my case, GRS are 'overkill'. Thank you for reading hubble attempts at writing. I hope I helped someone trying to make the same purchasing decision as I have. Best regards, James K.

Put about 30 shells of Federal 00 buck through it... talk about a fun time. Spread was about a square foot or slightly larger at 25 yards. Feels and looks great. This thing is the real deal. Hope I never have to use it but I bought it for home defense and maybe hunting someday.

This model had issues with feeding rounds. Had to be sent back to the manufacturer. Seems to be a common problem. Always, always, always function check your equipment before you place this, or any item between you and something bad. I had already ordered and installed a Magpul stock prior to testing. A word of caution——_ When it was sent back to the factory, the “technician” used what looked to be channel locks to pull out the lower trigger group. Marred up a brand new gun with no notes and shipped it back out to me. I know it’s a shotgun and not a beauty contest, but I was extremely disappointed that they would leave bare metal and marks on a fix that was ultimately a failure on quality control. They may have extended their quality control to check to see if rounds will feed from the tube, but this is NOT something generally allowed when you inspect a firearm at your local FFL. For this, or similar models, I HIGHLY recommend you purchase some “snap caps” and see if you can function check your purchase so you don’t have to deal with the headache, or see Your investment mangled from their blunder. All other Mossberg products seem to be immune to issues, but not this particular model. You can YouTube the issue about the “spreader bars” not being angled properly and this will NOT feed a round from the mag tube. Otherwise... it’s been fixed, functions well,... it just has a few more beauty marks at someone’s factory hands other than my own.

I purchased this particular model to be used as a duty weapon for law enforcement. When the product arrived the fit and finish was good and I had no complaints other then the misleading pictures of the 7 round mag tube,18.5 inch barrel model, being flush with the barrel. It's not at all. Probably about an 1 1/2 inch shorter. That wasn't a big deal and not something that is Buds fault due to every company using the same picture provided by the manufacture. I wanted to cycle some shells and dummy rounds through the shotgun prior to taking it to the range. I then found out that the gun does not reliably feed shells from the magazine tube. The shells would stay at receiver end of the mag tube and not cycle. This continued even after cleaning and lubing the firearm. After taking the shotgun to an armorer, it was revealed the interrupter bar is possible bent and causing the feed issue. After doing some research this is a very, VERY, common issue with the 500/590 series shotguns. I called Mossberg yesterday and they are sending me a shipping label. I hope they can get my shotgun back to working correctly in a timely manner. At this point I actually regret the purchase and wish I would have went with the 870. I know not all Mossberg products reflect this review but this is my first and possibly my last Mossberg purchase. For a shotgun so highly touted as the only shotgun to pass the military trials, I have my doubts about trusting it on the streets.
