Very nice AR-15! This is my very first AR and it is a very solid, well made build. Fit and finish is amazing and the finish on the upper and lower receivers matches perfectly. I heard people on YouTube complaining that the finish on the upper and lower on this rifle did not match. Those people must have gotten an early version of the Sport 2. It seems that the issue with the finish on the rifle has been taken care of. If you purchase this firearm currently, the finish on the upper and lower assembly matches perfectly-at least on mine it does.\r\nFit between the upper and lower assembly is very good. There is a tiny bit of wiggle but it is very minimal, which is typical with AR\\\'s anyway. Bolt carrier group and charging handle are solid and well made. Gas key is snug and properly staked. Everything functions properly and works great. \r\nThe pistol grip is nice and tight, and the military style butt-stock has some wiggle- I will be replacing it with a black Magpul stock. The buffer spring is great and the buffer type is solid and the castle nut on mine is staked. everything is nice and tight. The only thing that rattles on this rifle is the butt-stock. Also, the hand guards are ok, however they do not have heat shields at all. I got some Colt carbine length hand guards (with heat shields) to replace them- and they fit perfect and nice and snug.\r\nThe Magpul MBUS flip-up rear sight is nice and does what it\\\'s supposed to and does it well, however I will be replacing that with a carry handle with integrated rear sight. But the included sight works just fine if you plan to keep it as is. \r\nThe barrel is sort of a cross between a heavy and a medium profile barrel. It is Armornite treated inside and outside. The Ruger 556 does not have any treatment on the interior of the barrel whatsoever... Apparently this treatment is much more corrosion resistant than chrome lining. This rifle is stamped 5.56 NATO, so it will handle both 5.56 NATO and .223 rounds perfectly. Barrel has a 1/9 twist rate.\r\nI am happy with this purchase. Overall it is a solid AR that works great as it comes or makes an amazing choice as a base AR for customizing. The only changes I will be making to mine are a carry handle, a black Magpul butt-stock, black Magpul rubberized pistol grip and lastly a nice rifle sling. Tha\\\'s it. Don\\\'t hesitate to buy this AR, it\\\'s an excellent budget-friendly choice. \r\n \r\n\r\n

Had this rifle about two months now.. This rifle is accurate, reliable and fun to shoot. Hard to believe what I got for the price I paid. I haven\\\'t had a single issue with feeding or malfunctions of any kind.

This is my first AR, You will need to adjust the iron sights first. I had to youtube how to adjust the front sight. Be sure to watch how to take down and clean the inner workings because there is a sticky grease coating on all the internal parts. I did that and was glad I did because even the firing pin was sticky. This is a well built firearm as you may expect from Smith and Wesson, and it runs without a hitch. No Jams, No Miss feeds, no failures to eject. I am thrilled with this AR. Fun to shoot. As usual, Bud\\\'s came through for me.

Very happy with my Smith & Wesson M&P 15 Sport II. Have not put too many rounds through it yet but it is spot on accurate so far. It is everything I had hoped it would be at way less than some other AR15 style rifles out there. I would highly recommend both the rifle and Buds to anyone wanting a good home defense weapon! Plus there are numerous upgrades available. I will be adding a red dot sight, but the sights that come on it are very good as well. \r\nThanks, Tim C.

after owning this firearm for less than 12 months I had a catastrophic failure at the range and the weapon has been sent back to manufacturer. Let me start by saying the failure was not weapon related- I had a case head separation for store bought Remington .223 ammo,. resulted in 50,000PSI going thru my barrel and upper receiver- knocking my optics 20 feet away and scaring the hell out of me! this weapon being very well made even with an entry level priced AR platform I truly believed help prevent massive injuries to me- the barrel and upper receiver was toast BUT it held together- Minimal shrapnel occurred during the failure and I attribute that to the fine marksmanship of this rifle. if your looking for an entry level or even intermediate AR platform I highly recommend the product. is there better ones? yes of course but for the price and the quality and the reliability of this firearm cannot be outmatched for the price.

What a deal. Great starter AR type rifle with good parts quality. You can\\\\\\\'t go wrong with the M&P. I modded mine heavily and came out hundreds cheaper than building the same rifle from scratch.

This rifle is the most gun I’ve ever bought for the least amount of money. This AR lives up to the Smith & Wesson name for superb value and quality. I put 100 rounds of .223 through it without a single failure of any kind. The sights were spot on and didn’t need any adjustments. I’m not a great shot but my groups seemed impressively tight. I’m thrilled with this purchase and highly recommend this rifle to anyone looking for an entry level AR or a base unit that they’d like to accessorize. If you’re looking for a lot of bang for your buck this is the way to go. The lifetime warranty that S&W gives you was another huge factor in my decision to buy this particular unit. I couldn’t be happier with my purchase.

the difference in .223 and 5.56 is the thickness of the brass and pressure. You can shoot .223 in a 5.56 barrel with no problem. I would not shoot 5.56 in a .223 barrel unless it is a .223 Wylie barrel.

Joshua, no Sir. The Daniel Defense OMEGA is for a Mid-Length Gas Tube and the S&W Sport II is a Carbine Length. This BlackHawk will fit just fine : https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/75447/blackhawk+71qf02bk+ar15+2+piece+quad+rail+ar-15

Christopher, the standard Colt Hand guard will fit fine and is not free floated so no worries.

Walter, So, Stainless Steel fouls less and is easier to clean. Due to less fouling and better finishes the Stainless barrel is up to 30% more accurate than its Chrome Moly counterpart as long as you are not continually firing the firearm and heating up the barrel. There are different quality of stainless steel barrel. 410, 416, and 416R. The main difference between 416R and standard 416 stainless steels is the addition of Molybdenum (which is present in 410 but not 416 stainless steels) and a lower sulfur content than 416 stainless steel (but still higher than 410 stainless steel). Steel barrels would be 4140 or 4150 steel. The 4150 has 10% more carbon in the steel making it harder. A popular example and perennial favorite in the U.S. is called SAE 4140 or 4150 chrome-molybdenum or \"chrome-moly\" steel. In Europe, vanadium and nickel-steel alloys are preferred. Most standard barrels are made with alloy steels, as they offer an excellent balance of strength and cost. As your collection of ARs grow you will have sporting rifles with stainless steel, 4140 and 4150 barrels. Stainless steel is softer and will be shot out faster after 10,000 to 20,000 rounds or less.

Tim, yes Sir. The barrel is actually stamped 5.56NATO so both 5.56 and .223 will fire just fine.
