The Orion has a mechanical trigger according to their manual( https://weatherby.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Orion_Manual_2015.pdf ) I hope this helps

What is the "felt recoil" of this gun? Mild, typical 12 gauge, etc. I had shoulder surgery 2 years ago and am concerned about recoil in an over/under vs a semi auto.

the semi auto will have less recoil the least recoiling 12 ga on the market now is the Remington 1100 competition https://www.budsgunshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/69672/remington+1100+competition+12+30+pb14+ac+synthetic I have one and the recoil is like a 410 shotgun

Michael, recoil is dampened some by the weight but not down to the level of a Semi-Auto Sir. Cheers and stay safe!

I'm a lefty and would like to get into clays and skeet, but I'd also like my son to use it and he's right handed. Do you know if this has a neutral cast? I would like to buy a neutral cast gun. I see the comb is adjustable, but i'm a little new to over/under. Thank you.

Weatherby is showing that it has a ambidextrous top tang safety, but they did not note anything about the throw lever, or whether it has a neutral cast. It would be best to contact them directly to find out at 307-675-7840.

Wow. Honestly, I never even knew about a “cast.” I barley found out what it mean as I was searching for an answer for you.

Id like to believe this does even if the price is lower than other more expensive shotguns with neutral casts.

Look under the Cheek rest or colm before you accept this shot gun. It looks line a 3 year old applied the clear and stain. I called to have it fixed because it looked like it would peel off. The customer service person told me it would take four weeks just to look at it period I asked why they had a 4 week back log, there was no response. The shotgun looks really bad when you lift the comb. It's obvious that it's not made in the US by craftsman. There is no protection on her underneath. The metal parts and comb so I took it apart sanded everything carefully and stained it myself. Dont buy this unless you are an experienced woodworker.

I'm really enjoying this Purchase so far. First I'd like to say, that a usual, Bud's got my order out right away. The gun is beautiful, I feel confident to be able to take good care of it due in part to the VERY affordable warranty Bud's offered with the purchase of this Gun. I bought this as a starting gun for shooting sporting clays, trap, skeet, 5-stand and any other venues I can find. I ended up putting about 10k through it, and still going strong. The gun was a bit stiff in action at first, but loosened up perfectly after a flat or two. For what I paid, I am very happy with it. However, I had one ejector break 5 months in (the lower one of course), and turns out weatherby offers no warranty on this item whatsoever, though you can call them and plead your case why you think it should be repaired by them... May not be worth it though to send the gun in for repairs taking weeks to months. They would not ship me the part, stating it is a factory installed part, so I am living with the issue. Occasionally I have to lift up on the extractor edge to pull out a shell from the lower barrel.. But for the money this is a lot of gun, and as I said above, it has seen heavy use. I would give 4.5 stars if I could, but for five stars they would have had to repair it for me.

Arrived before promised date. Very nice firearm as far as fit and finish. Getting into sporting clays; and until I get pulled in with both feet wanted a reputable manufacturer so I could concentrate more on technique versus equipment. Weatherby has earned that "quality" reputation and continues to keep it with this example. No issues thus far...and I am actually scoring on some doubles. Thank-you Buds.

I picked this up as an entry level gun as I was just starting to shoot clays. At my club, I line up next to my neighbors with Berettas and other guns more than double the price of my Weatherby. The Orion mimics the Silver Pigeon design and shoots just as well. I don’t have the fancy scrollwork to show off, but my scores are what count and I’m doing at least as well as my shooting club buddies! I highly recommend.
