John, Bushmaster's web site states this upper comes with a bolt carrier group, and one 4 round magazine. It should be ready to go when you receive it. Some have reported better results by switching out the standard buffer and spring, to a Spikes T-2 buffer and and a JP tuned and polished spring. You can always call Buds to confirm the complete bolt carrier group does come with the upper. contact Bud's directly at 1-859-368-0371 (9am-9pm EST Mon-Fri) or use the "chat now" button located at the bottom right hand portion of your screen, (9am-9pm EST 7 days a week). Never hurts to be sure.

This upper is awesome! It shipped quickly and showed up packaged in such a way the delivery driver could have drug it here behind the truck and it would still be fine! I fitted the upper on a PSA complete lower along with a Weaver multi range optic. Using Hornady Black ammunition I sighted in @ 100 yards. Groups were around 2" with room to improve with a better trigger installed. I shot @ 150 yards using the second cross hair and it was spot on. I was shocked when I moved to 200 yards and my crosshairs for 150 yards was the correct hold for 200 yards. That's impressive considering thats shooting a 250 grain 45 cal bullet at those ranges! All the groups landed within the 5" Shoot and see target. The only thing to make other buyers aware of is the picture on the website is not the 16" upper. It comes with a short solid aluminum round hand guard that is well textured for a secure grip.

Nice upper, especially for the price. Good fit to the lower. Shoots well, feeds and functions good. Nice hand guard. Lighter than the 556 upper it replaced. Chrome lined barrel cleans up nice. First Bushmaster product I purchased and I am impressed.

Wow. Buds put these up for sale for $150 less than a competitor and they include the magazine! That was a bonus and like getting six boxes of ammo free. Ordered the upper and 8 boxes of Hornady. Received the upper and ammo by weeks end and put it on a Spikes Tact punisher fixed stock lower I had already built. Fit was get with no wobble. Mounted a 3X9 40mm scope and I was at the range that Sunday. Recoil was milder than I expected. I would compare it to a AR-10 in .308..... maybe slightly less than my M&P 10. Not unpleasant in the least to shoot. Magazine that came with it functioned good. Once zeroed in, I was amazed at the accuracy. One big hole with five shots at 100yds. You could cover the hole with a half dollar. I plan to deer hunt with it some this year where my shots are 150yards and shorter. Get one before they are gone......You will not be disappointed!

Set this atop a DPMS lower with a collapsible stock. The fit is excellent. The performance is too. Incredible accuracy from this unit. 1" 5 shot groups @ 100yds with the 250 gr. factory ammo. Under an inch with some 200 gr handloads. 1.5" 5 shot groups with the 300 gr XTP handloads. These results are 1st trip out. It is a handful with the standard M4 stock. I'd recommend something a little more forgiving. Great round/rifle combination. Should be a deer/hog slayer with any of these loads.
