Definitely a reliable work horse. Good looking, but rugged enough that you won't care about babying it. Powerful enough to get the job done. My go-to revolver.

I live in Big Black Bear country along the Canadian border and they are a nearly daily visitor. The Ruger GP100 5" .357 Magnum loaded with Grizzly Cartridge Company's 200gr WLNGC is potent poison for any brawny bruin who chooses to tangle. Fit & finish is 5 Star and we are easily 6 for 6 in the center ring at 15 yards single action and 4/6 double action and breathing hard. Carried in a Diamond Outdoor Denali Chest Holster, the only change I made was a big green Tritium front site and two red dots on the adjustable rear. Got 9/12 @50 yards on the FBI Man target after slinging a few a adjusting the rear right 2 clicks. The 5" GP100 .357 Magnum from Ruger is my choice of force for Black Bear holler.

The 5” version of the GP100 seems to be the perfect size. You get the accuracy of a longer barrel without being too “top heavy”. Goes bang every time just as it should. Thanks Bud’s!

Look for the gun for a long time and sure enough Buds had it love the gun and as for Buds what can I say fast shipping and great service can't ask for more then that.

Buds service was great as usual. The GP100 with 5 inch barrel has the best balance. I had a four inch model and six inch seemed to front heavy but the five inch barrel model seems to have the best balance. I have not fired the pistol but everything seems to work fine. The only gripe I have is sharp milling marks in the crane, considering how much you pay, you would think there would be greater attention to such detail, they do not affect function just annoying

Over the years I have purchased a number of various firearms and accessories, and in my opinion Bud's is the #1 place to buy them. They have both great selections and prices not to mention fast shipping and top notch customer service. If you are in the market I strongly suggest you check out Bud's before you buy. As far as the Ruger GP100 goes the numerous positive online reviews sum it up pretty well. Upon inspection no visible machine marks were evident and the cylinder lock-up was tight on all six chambers with only the slightest amount of end play. The gap between the cylinder and forcing cone was a consistent .006". The only mods I made were to replace the front sight with a high-Viz fiberoptic sight and replace the Hogue grips with the original style rubber/wood insert grips from Ruger. Both of these mods were more of a personal choice than a necessary one. I decided on the 5" barrel version because I felt it provided the best balance and sight line while still being manageable to carry all day in a cross chest holster while hunting. The revolver is a pleasure to shoot even with full load 357 magnums. The nearly three pound weight really tames the recoil making for quick follow-up shots. If you're in the market for a 357 mag you owe it to yourself to check this one out before you make your final decision.

Bought a 5" GP100 a few weeks ago, but have yet to make it out to the range to shoot it. Right out of the gate, I can see why people call this pistol "the tank". I have owned several Ruger pistols, and rifles over the years, and have never been disappointed with the build quality, function, or reliability of any of them, and expect no less from this one. I did make a few changes to the pistol already, I swapped out the all black ramp front sight for one of the red ramp front sights, and swapped out the Hogue monogrip for one of the rubber grips with rosewood inserts, mostly because my old man eyes pick up the red better, and I am sort of a traditionalist when it comes to firearms furniture. I would highly recommend the purchase of this Ruger pistol, and Buds is one of the best places on the web to purchase firearms and the goodies to go with them.
