This Troy GUU 5/P rifle is simply phenomenal and worth every penny. There is one dislike I will get too. Other than the fire control group it is identical to Air Force GUU 5/P carbines I have scene. It has the correct 4 position polymer CAR15 stock with early pre castle nut nut properly staked in place. The upper and lower receiver look great nice parkerized finish and just a little bit of play between the upper and lower. US government property mark stampings and faux auto stamping. The bolt looks good mp test markings. Carrier was properly staked. The hand guards are well fitted with no hand pinching gaps. The barrel is great with the pinned on flash hider timed properly. You can barely tell where it was pinned. The only negative is around some of the pin holes and you could see where tool slipped marking the finish. This is not a big deal for me because I will add all my own love marks over time. But others may be up set.

Guess I'll just start by saying I'm very disappointed overall with purchase. Upon inspection at my FFL, this carbine felt and sounded like I was pulling out a baby rattle from the poor factory box packaging. Rifle was somewhat moving around all over the place inside the box during transit and rifle itself wasn't even packed in plastic bag as have all the other retail manufactured AR builds I've purchased in the past. As for the rifle itself, first, the upper and lower are way loose. I understand about a military commemorative/replica rifle but for a brand new retail rifle build, I'd expect a tighter upper/lower fit. There was no actual damage to the finish like noticeable dings, scratches and other blems. I just took the $850 chance, accepted the rifle and went through with the transfer. Upon further inspection after getting home, took my brand new adult rattle, I mean rifle and inspected the bolt carrier group. It's nitride finished and I assume is not correct to the times when this configuration was used by the military. I expected a mil-spec parkerized BCG at least, a disappointment. Although the nitride finish is clean and well done, the gas key staking is the poorest I've seen of any BCG. The staking is not evenly staked at all. Staking on one side is barely noticeable like not enough pressure was applied when the key was being staked, either manually or with machine, who knows. There is a big "Made In USA" stamping at the bottom of the bolt carrier, good, at least that. The barrel is that of the pencil profile with A2 front sight tower. It does have a pinned and welded flash hider to make the OAL of barrel 16". Unfortunately this barrel does not come without another disappointment. Pin weld is somewhat smoothed out and finished with some pores in the weld still visible under finish, even the flash hider is poorly timed, the crush washer is off center. It's just too bad this flash hider is on there forever. This IS the "updated" version with the property of US Government etc etc etc stampings and no Troy logo. The stock is a mil-spec polymer version, not like the cooler aluminum version that comes with the GAU carbine. It also comes with a Troy stamped 20 round flat gray magazine to complete the retro replica look. I loaded the mag with 20 rounds of 5.56 brass and manually chambered rounds with some rounds not slamming home chambered all the way. I hoping it just needs to be broken in. But I've always had smooth manual chambering of rounds with my custom builds. Final thoughts, I paid around $850 for this retro replica but if I had the chance to try before buy, after a hands on inspection, I wouldn't have even paid $500. The finish is OK but this rifle is a very sloppy build with sloppy manufacturing. I just really hope that it works. This won't be that rifle like other that I have, that I usually keep in the safe because I don't want any scratches or dings on them. If it works, It'll just be my next trunk gun but after spending $850 on a "trunk gun", I'll be regretting it for a while. Bud's service is top notch as usual. Good luck with your GUU purchase
