  It depends on the laws of each individual state, many have legal open carry in most public places subject to other restrictions. But regardless of legality where it is carried, one should expect to have police called on them daily by members of the general public. Not a stupid question, but by my count it is your 43rd question in 11 days.

  Hi Richard, there is no 'primary' caliber. It will shoot both 5.56 and .223, whichever you like.
  The gun is rated for 5.56, which means it will shoot both calibers.

  Hi Tim, the barrel is 4150 CrMov (Chrome Moly Vanadium). The “50” in 4150 steel is an indicator that the barrel steel has a carbon content near .50% (Don't mis-read that, it is not 50%, but one half of 1%)
  Carbon is what Diamondback has decided to call this series of rifles.
