WALTHER P38 9MM PSTL 4.9" LOCKED-BREECH PISTOL, GOOD CONDITION

Post WWII production Walther P38's with aluminum frame.  Cache's of old military guns like this are dwindling with each passing day.   DO NOT miss your chance to own one of these pieces of history.

The P.38 was a cutting edge semi-automatic pistol design, which introduced technical features still used today in current commercial and military semi-automatic pistols, including the Beretta 92.  The German military used these handguns well into the late 1990's.  The Walther P38 is a perfect example of German engineering that knows no competition.

We have a very limited supply of these pistols.

Excellent firearm. Just as soon as I received it I went to my range and fired a few rounds. On target with all rounds and operated flawlessly.

So you have to know what you are getting into here. It's a bit of a gamble from what I've heard. But I was fortunate. No function issues. Slide, barrel, grips, and metal parts were in good condition. The aluminum receiver had much more finish wear/missing finish and the magazine had pitting that didn't affect function. So to say it was in good condition is a fair statement. Aluminum will not hold a finish like bluing on metal so that wear makes sense (considering mine is marked 1959). As far as the magazine, it functions but is just not pretty. I can get a replacement. It's not a WW2 museum piece so I'm not concerned about it. I can't speak for everyone but I'm happy about the purchase and everyone at the range liked it and enjoyed shooting it. Mainly for the cool factor :-) DISCLAIMER: the picture is before the initial cleaning

I haven't fired this yet but it looks to be in good to very condition. The bore is clean and so is the frame. For a firearm almost twice as old or older than I am this was a good purchase. Any damages I noticed immediately are included in my photos.

I jumped on the opportunity to buy one of these. I received a well used pistol that clearly has stories to tell. Upper and lower had different serial numbers. At some point it was painted black, but most of that was worn off. Functionally it is perfect, and you don't buy an old utility pistol like this for asthetics.

I was disappointed in the overall condition of the pistol when I received it. It was a little rougher than I was expecting and seem to be dirty inside and a lot of wear on the trigger guard. I cleaned it and the first time I shot it the Firing Pin & Indicator Cover flew off almost lost the firing pin spring and lock. after putting it back in place seem to be alright. I have fired 27 rounds through it with no issues now. The gun does shoot good and seems to be accurate and not a lot of recoil. Jeff in SC

I have been very happy with past police trade-in handguns from Bud's... this isn't one. My pistol came with a broken firing pin that prevented it from functioning, and needed replacing with my time and money. For a "good" condition pistol, I am not expecting a showpiece, but I am expecting something that works.

Greetings: I purchased this pistol simply to add what I hoped to be another desirable firearm of German heritage to my collection. I knew it wasn’t WWII vintage, but it was still a “Walther” branded pistol. While I also knew it was a used firearm, I really expected it to be in pretty fair condition. I’ve purchased police trade-ins from Bud’s.com before & they have all been in very good shape. So, why not this one? Well, it was not to be. First of all, the finish on the pistol I received was significantly worn, more than just holster wear. The grip panels look as though they have been burnished on a buffer wheel. I will be seeking replacements. Mechanically, it shoots & cycles as it should, but the POI is about 8”-10” low at 15 yards. The sights are only adjustable for windage. So if & when I take it to the range again, I’ll have to remember how it shoots & make aiming adjustments to compensate for the situation. IMHO: Considering the price being charged for these Walthers, I expected it to be in much better shape, not so much well worn. I believe due to the condition of the example I received, it would have been more reasonable if the selling price had been more around $300.00-$350.00. Especially since there is NO historic value to be had for this particular vintage of pistol. I’ll keep it because it is an original Walther. But it is just a plunker & not much of a collector. It sits on one of the lower level shelves in the safe. If you desire a Walther just to know you have one, then buy it. If you are looking for a high quality firearm to add to your collection, move along & shop somewhere else on this one…

I guess it's a crapshoot when you get one of these, probably pulled from a pile and put in the box. Mine looked pretty good out of the box, no major blemishes, dings, or damage. I don't know how long this one has been stored, but the rust preventative had hardened to a point where nothing wanted to move. The safety/decocker was frozen so bad I was afraid I was going to break it. It was stuck in the fire position yet needs to be in safe to remove the slide. The firing pin, extractor, loaded indicator rod, and other moving parts were all glued together from the rust preventative. It wasn't quite so bad inside the frame. It took alot of cleaning with degreasers and penetrating oils to get it all clear and freed up. Otherwise, there is only minimal wear in the moving parts and mechanisms. The rifling looks great. This gun was not fired much, but does have some blueing wear from holstering, and only very minor scratches and blemishes. I haven't fired it yet but I see no issues with any of the mechanics. Looks like a good gun.

The decocker does not work. Only about 40% of the finish is remaining

I have bought from buds guns before and got great service and a great product. I can’t say that for this product this gun looks like it was dragged behind a pick up truck on a gravel road for 10 miles. The barrels rifling is almost nonexistent. It has large pits and rust. The frame looks like the coat of a Dalmatian dog. This was a fairly expensive conversation piece at best.

Hi Rafael and welcome. No Sir. It will fire no issue. locked Breech is a timing event to prevent overpressure of ammunition. Locked breech. This action is used when the pressure in the chamber is high enough that the opening of the breech would occur too rapidly with simple or delayed blowback which could cause weapons damage or human injury. The breechblock is "locked" into the barrel. Cheers and stay safe!
