My 15 year old is going into his 2nd year of high school trap, his first year he used a Mossberg pump we had on hand, but was not a great trap gun. Now that we see he really likes trap we want to get him a better gun.

This shotgun has some very good reviews. As Trevor stated, first and foremost, you won will need a gun that fits him, and one he is comfortable with, as far as stock length, stock 'angle' (comb) weight and barrel length. But if your son is a big, strapping young man, then it probably wouldn't matter. From the reviews, though, this would probably be a good choice for high school trap.

Keep in mind this is a "compact" model, you might be better served by the standard SXP Trap model. Figure out what length of pull is best for you and go from there - fitting is the most important thing to consider with shotguns.

I don't personally own one of these guns so perhaps someone who does can chime in with more information.

A great way to get trapped. Pump action shotguns are a great choice for the new shooter getting into the sport. And the SXP has special features that make it a fast way to become competitive. just what I wanted. Perfect fit and hardly no kick. The size is great as I’m 5’4”. Sights are great. Really pleased.

Great shotgun! I chose the compact for my daughter to shoot high-school trap. Smooth action, like the high rib, Montecarlo stock, and fiber optic sight. Was a great deal with the $50 rebate.

This is my first attempt at clay shooting and I didn’t want to spend $900 to find I didn’t enjoy the sport. I like the shotgun a lot, it handles well despite a surprising recoil. I’ve not used it in any contests yet but my first is April 1 so we shall see how both it and I perform. The full choke pattern is good and I did remove the block so it’s carrying 5 shells and in the milk jug test, it’s spot on at 20 yards. I’ll add more once I have some real experience. Until then it’s a 5.

Haven’t brought it yet to the trap shooting range but have some very important comment to make re the features of this SXP trap compact. This compact model is special to me because I am Asian and I have a really Small body build. This shotgun is just so perfect for someone like me! The weight, and most of all the length of pull. Even though the one I got was without the adjustable LOP spacers and without the adjustable comb, still it fits just right.! Aren’t they supposed to come with the adjustable comb and LOP spacers ? Anyways later I’l be bringing them to a trap shooting range nearby and tomorrow for a pheasant hunt in the neighboring town. I’m excited as to how I will be shooting with it! Laters then and wish me luck!

i finally got to shoot gun and it did very well ,no malfunctions. shot three rounds of trap and as i got used tothe gun my scores improved . i am very pleased with it. well worth the money
